Incubators Anonymous

This is going to be a really weird week for me....i have no babies hatching. This is the first week since the new year that this is happening! I did have 4 turkey eggs set that would've been due Saturday but all 4 were duds. Oh well. This is a good week for this anyway. We're celebrating my dad's birthday this Saturday and will be out most of the day. Then Sunday after church, the whole extended family is getting together to meet a "long lost cousin" so it'll most likely be a long day too. Apparently, this cousin's mom joined the military a long time ago, married, and settled somewhere down south and told her kids that there was no family up here worth meeting, that we're all lazy, jobless, "welfare bums" (we're not lol). Her mom passed away, she worked her way through college and out of that life and managed to get a hold of my great aunt somehow. Everyone is more than excited to meet her and officially welcome her to the family. I think she'll be pleasantly surprised! But anyway, sorry to go WAY off topic lol. It's a good weekend to have a rest from babies lol

My incubators are all turned off, because several broodies have already turned theirs on! :p

Sounds like an interesting family meeting. I hope it goes well, I feel sure she will love you all! Enjoy!!

I am afraid I will be hatching in July or August this year. I do not have any of my showbirds hatched yet. I am going to have subpar birds this fall. I am not going to show many cockerels or pullets..

By hatching late I hope to get good parent stock for 2020 shows.

It appears all the silkies are probably goners. On is pipped but shows no interest in coming out. It's still alive but not making any sounds. Going to dribble a little sugar water on its break and see if that helps. One is dead in the shell, appears to have died a few days ago so probably suffocated. I havent had the heart to pull and eggtopsy the other two yet.

There's never a rush to do an eggtopsy. If they're dead, they're going to stay dead, so waiting won't matter. If the temp was low, the chicks could simply be late. In this case waiting is beneficial.

Today is supposed to be hatch day (unless I'm off). I had a silkie hatch yesterday & an orp this morning. I have 9 eggs that looked good on Wed but have no pips. I quickly candled a few last night. Two eggs were not moving - just large black shadows - & the 3rd peeped. That is the egg which hatched this morning. Nothing to do but wait.

Bummer, but I agree on waiting it out a bit.
I wouldn’t suggest the sugar water thing though. More chance of drowning it in place, in my mind. But it’s up to you. :hugs

Hope they are just teasing you and all pop out and surprise you!

I have my single egg in the hatcher...today is the day. It looks lonely in there.

I have all 5 trays out and it is just lying on the bottom.....

My granddaughter was here overnight... I showed her the house chickens last night and the egg that was going to hatch.

This morning we had to go down to "see if the egg turned into a chicken yet"...

it had not....

Don't you hate people that can go on and on about their grandkids?

I would guess that those of us that actually have grandchildren don’t hate it. :D

Did the egg turn into a chick yet?

2 orps & a silkie pipped yesterday & hatched. One serama also pipped yesterday. Waiting for it come out.

5 eggs doing nothing.

The serama decided to finally come out.
