Give him time and find a great deal on a used cabinet, he may give in :) Mine did! I found a cabinet bator for $200 and he gave in and let me get it. I don't think he ever imagined I'd fill it lol
That's the risk of it, getting stuck with a bunch of extra chicks. I advertise mine on pennswoods.net, craigslist, and Facebook pages. I try to make it to the tractor supply swaps too to sell mine. It happens though, getting sick with extra chicks. Those ones end up growing until they're big enough to butcher and go to the freezer. Unless they're pullets, then they usually can be sold fairly easy.
He would cave if I found a chest for $200. I wish that our local TSC had swaps. MD stores have too many politics involved, and do not allow the swaps. This year there will be no birds at fairs bc of bird flu. Hopefully DE doesn't get rid of theirs.

Well hubby bought me an incubator last week!!!! He felt sorry for me because I was fighting with my homemade incubator. He said if I was gonna do it I might as well have the right equipment. I'm so happy I can't stand it.
Yesterday was day 7 in the incubator for the EE eggs. Candling went great last night. Sooooo many veins and even a bit of movement. There are a few Silkie eggs in there too but they are small and I'm afraid to handle them much. 2 more weeks!!!!
Then I'll have to find more eggs to hatch!!!

Are you far from the PA border? If not, I wonder if you could drive to a tractor supply in PA to swap. Don't know if that's allowed or not but it's not like you have to register for the swaps or anything.

Congratulations, that's awesome! I'm sure you'll have no problem finding more eggs to hatch :) is hard to stop once you start :)

Just hatched 4 of 8 turkey eggs.

Put 11 welsummer eggs on lockdown.

Have 7 turkey eggs that go to lockdown next week.

Set 25 turkey eggs to hatch the 27th.

Set 54 turkey this morning to hatch on the 5th.

My 9 month old palm hen decided to try and go broody on 2 eggs. I got her outta nest got eggs. Talk about temperamental.

As you can see I'm kinda addicted to hatching turkeys.

I have enough room for about 40 more before I run out of incubators.

I so need a cabinet incubator.

Ok, I have totally passed the point of obsessed....

In the incubator I currently have 12 backyard mixed eggs from a friend, 13 blue/buff Cochin from the 24 hour auction, , 2 of my own silkie eggs, 12 shipped silkie eggs (ebay), 12 auto sexing EE's and 19 frizzed EEs (both from the auction).

I received a package of Sulmtaler eggs today. I ordered 6 black crested polish eggs and 12 Black Copper Marans off of ebay, to be shipped by next Tuesday. 12 Olive eggers from the 24 auction, to be shipped Monday, hopefully 12 - 18 backyard mixes off the 24 hour auction page as well.

No more buying eggs. I said I wanted polish and that was it. So, now I have to stop buying eggs!!!!

I thought after I pulled eggs the other day and put them in the hatcher life would be good...

It is not I put the new ones back in the incubator and I find myself needing more empty spaces.....

What is a person suppose to do?

Oh, And I have to be good too, I have the state stopping to do my inspection on Tuesday.....

Good luck with the inspection. What are they inspecting exactly. Cleanliness, best practices, what you are keeping? Is this for NPIP certification?

Wow, that's a bunch of different breeds! If you ordered silkies from chickenlittlefarm on ebay, I got some from her too. They all developed and most of them hatched :)

I overloaded on my breeds this spring too and I find myself with a bunch of chicks growing out and very little room for all of them lol. I was thinking that I would be getting my breeding pens thrown together here soon and that they could move in to them to grow out but loo and behold, it's still snowing! That's just not right :/ my main coop is going to be rather crowded for a while.

Who has the bigger addiction now? Hmmm?

You better behave yourself if the state is stopping by soon. You gotta have everyone under control. Better have your belly buttons locked up lol.

Your eggs get locked down tomorrow....somehow. Actualy, they should be locked down today! I guess I'll be doing that here in a bit. I'm just going to put them all in one basket and after some of my other eggs hatch tomorrow, I'll try to seperate them by what you have written on them. That way if I get a white sport, I can tell you where it came from lol

My goal is to have 1 of MANY types of chickens, all different colored eggs. I'll sell all the extras.

I ordered 6 from dy_ad4 on Ebay. They sent 8, but the box got really beat up. 2 eggs were beyond cracked, 1 had hairline cracks (no leaking) that I sealed with wax. The air cells were super wonky. I let them know, not asking for anything, just letting them know about the damage. They immediately (within 2 days) shipped me 6 new eggs. I paid them for the shipping, since I really didn't expect them to send me more eggs. I set all 12, 36 hours apart from each other., so the second six will get locked down a day early. I've been trying to order eggs on Ebay from shippers that are within a state or two from me. The Polish and Maran eggs are coming from 2 different people in Arizona. Dy_ad4 is up in Crescent City, CA.

I am trying to see if distance traveled impacts my eggs.

It's funny, I'm not zoned for chickens. Not even 1 and I have 14 laying adult hens, 6 adult silkies (2 rooster), 10 four month old chickens (1 VERY loud rooster), 24 chicks from Feb/March hatches (nobody crowing yet), 38 chicks from the Easter HAL, 17 that hatched this last batch and a bunch already brewing in 2 incubators. There are still some silkie babies out in the silkie coop that are from Nov and Dec hatches. Most of those I sold, I'm not sure how many I still have - maybe 4 and they are all suspected roosters.

Definitely too many chickens.
