Incubators Anonymous

PS , I sure hope hatching in a cabinet incubator is simpler than it sounds. We went to Walmart and got two of those $10 digital hygrometers . so we put one inside the top of the incubator and one inside the bottom of the incubator so we can read them through the window. have I got that right?

It's a lot simpler than you think. Once you get it dialed in and set, it's pretty much self sustaining. Especially if it has a water bucket on top with the automatic water refill inside.

No it doesn't have a water bucket but apparently we're supposed to put a pan with some water and a sponge inside? I hope that's right

It is really simple to add the humidity kit. It isn't a requirement but I have been really happy with the one that I added to my cabinet incubator. The humidity pads they sell to use with the system work much better than any sponges that I have tried. In my experience, the addition of the humidity pads is only necessary during lockdown.

Awesome find on the Cabinet incubator. I don't need one of those. I love the hatching, but I would not be able to deal with that many chicks!!!

As it is, I just sold 2 roosters - admittedly for only $10 a piece, and a pullet (I think) for $10 and a laying hen for $10 since they took the 2 roos. I also dropped off 2 roosters at the feed store - that shows that $10 per rooster is WAY better than free to the feed store. The ones I gave away were a silkie, and an Ayam Cemani/EE mix. It had adorable puffy cheeks. I hope it finds a home and isn't eaten. I lost one of it's hatch mates as a chick and I cut it open - it had the black all the way through. Bones, organs, skin and flesh. That isn't anything I would want to eat myself.

So, I'm down 4 roosters. That just leaves about 20 more that just aren't crowing yet. A cabinet incubator, would give me a HUGE inrush of chicks, whereas I like small hatches every week.

There is nothing that says you have to fill the cabinet incubator up. You could set one tray per week as long as you use a separate hatcher. That way you could indefinitely be having a hatch every week.

Take his enabler badge away!!!!

Everyone knows earthquakes and tornadoes are caused by people not filling their incubators, and you don't want to be responsible for an earthquake, do you?

The only time we had an earthquake here was back during a period that I wasn't incubating anything. I am very confident that it had nothing to do with the incubator being empty.

Time for more cabinets.
