@Jessimom I know you said more than "I have almost total shade for my birds - and it's still stressful for them. We were 107 yesterday."

But I could not get beyond that, I just read it over and over until I was dying of fatigue.

I feel for you guys in the blistering heat! It was actualy rather chilly here today and the kids were mad that I wouldn't take them to the town pool (we have a summer pass). It was only 70-72°! I took advantage of it and mowed the grass out front since the tractor is broke and we're stuck with the push mower. Hope you all get a break from the heat soon.

I am glad for the heat in some part.... I came home and one of my broodies was on the wrong nest (silly girl) the funny thing is when I lifted her up she had 9 eggs(the same number she has been setting on for 6 days) and all the same colors, just one nest over her eggs set with their numbers written in pencil.... but they were still warm so I took the new eggs and gave hers back to her. Lol guess we will see how she does, I will candle tonight to see where we stand.

You will be fine I had one do that when the temps were in the 30's and the eggs were ice cold to touch. I moved her back and her chicks hatched.

Hahaha.....I can't imagine folks that were even hotter than that. It was bad. But the girls are troopers and egg laying didn't drop too much. We are going to be a balmy 88 today (it's 81 at 10:00 am). But it does cool down nicely in the evening, so we get a break from the heat, and the coops actually do cool down. Plus our humidity is SO low, that we don't have that to deal with.

There are fires burning nearby, but I don't see any smoke yet. We had some great rain, that let all kinds of vegetation grow, then we got our desert heat, and it all dried out. There is PLENTY Of stuff to burn, and fire season has started. To me, that is a bigger danger. How do you evacuate 100 chickens?
