All you incubator experts:  How detrimental is it to have a power outage of about 2-3 hours where the temps drop to 85 at day 5?  We had a thunderstorm while I was at work.  Currently trying to get the temps to level back out.

I get power outages frequently. I don't bother putting my back up batteries and inverter on until the outage is in the second hour.

The closer the eggs are too hatch the more tolerant they are of temp fluctuations. See the hatching 101 article by Sally sunshine in my signature for a link to a good article by brinsea

My biggest concern is that they are only day 5. If they were further in I would be less worried. I never worry about small flux as long as it is on the low side. I figure mama hen gets up to eat/drink/poop every so often so that is fine. I just don't think I have ever seen a broody off the nest for 3 hours.

Ya you should be good still but you need to let the temps come up slowly as the eggs need to catch up with the interior temps of the incubator or you might get the eggs to hot and that is not good ether ...... Now once you have the temps up come the critical part to make sure it wont get hotter in the incubator I say this twice because I want you to look and watch alright ....

Roger that! I got power back to them a little after 5pm so I have been hovering like a hawk and checking the temps frequently.

Every thing is getting back within limits. I am doing tiny adjustments as they want to bounce between 98-101 so I am slowly dialing it in.

Just took a peek and they are both at 99.5.

Maybe I can go to bed now.

They should be ok.

Every thing is getting back within limits. I am doing tiny adjustments as they want to bounce between 98-101 so I am slowly dialing it in.

Just took a peek and they are both at 99.5.

Maybe I can go to bed now.

Thanks for your support! I am itching to candle but I will hold off. Friday will be a week so I plan to check them then. e

I know what you mean I have to sit on my hands all the time and I have already hatched out ducks , geese , guinea & over 100 chicks this year but I still have to hold myself back and let nature take it's course and hope the incubator will hold up .....
