I know that mine are due on the 7th but was hoping today they would start to hatch I am all ready for them to come out can't wait!!!! This is my first time

I am almost overwhelmed with chicks. Which dampens my enthusiasm for hatching.

I just put in 6+ duck eggs, so I will focus on hatching ducks for a while. See if I can master a new skill!

Have a few Buckeyes coming this week to set and a few turkey eggs arriving when ever possible.

Time to work on selling a few.

I know how you feel. By the time this hatch is done I will have about 90 more chicks with about that many due in a week or so. I have some customers but not enough. After the next hatch I will be doing only one more for the June egg swap then the bator is shut off until fall when my dellies start laying.

i can relate... until i got all the excess chicks outside to their pens, i was really disliking chicks for a bit... but now i've got it back to a manageable number for little'uns.

now i'm getting overwhelmed with broodies. LOL i'm working out a design for a 'broodie condo' of sorts now. then i need to build another breeding pen or 2.

I have been feeling that way too. Now that I have a plan to move birds and consolidate pens so I can have grow out pens OUTSIDE I feel better. I also feel better when the guy comes to pic up all the little roos

that cuts my numbers in about 1/2 when that happens. With the roos guy, now when I think about hatching it still goes like this "2/3 will hatch, 1/2 of those will be roos and I can get rid of them.... let me put some more eggs in"

It really is great if you can find someone to take the roos while they are still chicks..... they will eat you out of house and home.

I started hatching for the first time in the fall, was not bad, but the chicks didn't make it outside till spring.

I don't really want to repeat that. If I can keep my fall hatches small and only select breeds I think I can handle it better now. The stack brooder will help and so will the big brooder boxes (3) then I can put them in other grow out pens in the shop. The ones I hatch in LATE June and August should make it outside.

I am going to make sure they do anyway. If we have as mild of a winter this year that we did last year I should be ok
