Incubators Anonymous

Are we in hurricane season again? Please no repeats of Irene.

And DOnna, I'll be sure to have the boys dancing too.

geez, power still isn't back? I knew it was out for some people but didn't know why. Hope it's back soon! 5 days without power really messed up my incubating, otherwise we managed. Kids thought it was a blast, just like camping!

Everything is fun to kids.... they don't have to do all the extra work.... just enjoy the fun "NEW" stuff.

our power was out from 8pm friday 6/29 till noon saturday 7/7. as for camping, it's usually cheaper than what we had to go thru. but my incubators never missed a beat so all is good. just broke.

on the plus side, i did sell 17 dorkings 7 quail, gave away the pair of bantam wyandottes and my bantam rir, and sold the 2 turkeys and 5 bantam cochins. so i made back about 1/3 of what we lost on the generator.

Some are getting double stacked til a few more hatch, but I'll get em all stuffed in there some how!!!!!!

Current egg count IN the bators & under hens is 260 ducks, chicks, turkeys, pheasants, quail & button quail, 4 chicks in the brooder, and 53 chicks & ducks waiting to go in the bators.

Egg total since April is 524.

wow, hubby would have shot me if i tried that many... that's why i passed up on the sportsman back in feb. he complained this weekend when he realized how many birds i actually had in the yard, until i sold 12 at a shot, then 2 more, and possibly a few more later this week. LOL

I have lots of babies! It is just day 20 too..... I think I like this.

Looks like my pen rearranging is going to work better for the Ams. Maybe not the hatch rate but at least my Lavenders should go up in numbers. I have 2 for sure and the other 2 I am not sure about till they dry off and fluff up really good.

I did have one that was odd. One of the NH, I noticed one had leaked on the paper towel. It had pipped and all this yolk, whites, something had leaked out. I didn't help it since it had only pipped. My guess is it will not make it. What happened to it? No blood that I saw so I don't think it hit a vein.

Off to put up an auction......

i've had that before, usually from a wet hatch. had an oegb today did something similar, but strange. pipped last night, zipped 3/4 the way around and due to the 'leakage' glued himself to the paper towel. even tho humidity in there is around 60-65%, he got shrink wrapped. i tapped, heard nothing, saw no movement, so peeled the egg up and out of the way to make room for the guineas. half the shell was glued to the paper and as soon as i picked it up, the chick had enough room to move and started hollering and kicking. LOL no blood vessels active, he was ready to go. but had the upper half of the membrane glued to his back, so i had to do some peeling so he'd be able to act like a chick. went in the brooder about 10 minutes later because he was zooming around the incubator rocking everyone else. LOL other than looking like a glazed doughnut, he's totally normal far as i can tell.

Well I didn't give up on him, but I don't have high hopes either. He pipped a little lower that usual too. Tomorrow I will know if it makes it or not. Humidity may have been a little higher, but not by much.... might have been near 40% most of the hatch because of the RH even without adding water.
