Incubators Anonymous

Rachel's Flock wrote: My Husband doesn't understand how the fertile eggs "accidentally" found their way under the broody hen, since he saw me checking each yolk like a mad scientist for fertility for weeks in advance of her going broody, and also saw me stashing them in a cool back room so they would remain viable, taking extensive notes throughout the process...
Doesn't he know these things just 'happen'???

Thanks for the laugh! It's been a rough day. An injured chicken and baby ducks magically disapprearing and an hour later reapprearing; repeat! Causes me heart palpitations.

Rethinking hatching this fall; but then rethinking gets me rethinking and well maybe I'll go for it. Still tinkering with the homemade incubator--keeping it warmed up and ready to go . . . I'm nuts.

Crap my husband let his hand open too much candling tonight and cracked a wonderful living egg on day 10, grrr! Tiny crack though, I patched it with some Elmer's glue and am just crossing my fingers. NONE of my big eggs candled fertilized, that rooster isn't doing his job! One of the little eggs candled unfertilized, but I have six (if you count old crackedula) looking good in there! I'll candle again on the 18th, then LOCKDOWN!

Thanks, I find it funny that the little bantam cochin is mating his girls like crazy and apparently my speckled sussex is just laying around eating corn. He better get on the ball! I mean the hens!

So happy you got a chuckle!
Hang in there, fellow addict!

Wow y'all folks have been busy. Finally decided to hatch out New Hampshires and Black Australorps, but not sure when yet. I have to figure how to hatch about 8 dozen at once, 4 dozen each.I found out it's going to cost about $300 or more for the goat shed conversion.

Got a question, how much is shipping on eggs? Already extending free range area and digging a second pond. Am I biting off more than I can chew? I feel slightly overwhelmed, but I love doing this so.
