Good luck repressing the monster hehe. They are super cute I have cochins and they are so friendly both bantams and LF ones.

Any eggs for sale (seriously) ?
Did you see the BYC auction page this morning? ONE PAGE . I've never seen the BYC egg auction site with just one page. Well ~sigh~ I suppose it's a good thing

What kind of eggs are you looking for? I have quite a few different breeds, check out my byc page. Deb

I separated out my roosters from the hens getting ready for winter. I know quite a few people who do the same this time of year. A friend of mine just put her BLRW rooster back in with her girls so I could get some eggs from her

I am supposed to be done for the year . . that is what I keep telling myself

I was supposed to be done two hatchings ago but there are always more pretty little eggs and now my rooster is breeding and my girls are laying and even though they are Gold Comets I keep thinking "I wonder what I will get if I breed them together and hatch the eggs?" I know they don't breed true but I am still thinking that it might be fun to see what they would look like when they hatched. The only thing stopping me is that I can't really use them in my program since I am trying to breed Dual Purpose meat birds rather than just egg layers. Part of me keeps thinking though that since Comets come from a cross between Delawares and Rhode Island Red or Hampshires that there is potential there for meat birds....I might just have to try it.

I am interested in the Delawares, so I did a little research and found the the breed was developed by crossing Barred Rocks with New Hampshires and that cross (The Delaware) was the most popular broiler before the Rock Cornish hit the market due to its fast growth and superior meat quality. So I would think using your Gold Comets could be beneficial in your breeding program. I am a great enabler

I got the e-mail, the UPS shipping label has been created! My incubator will arrive sooner than later! I've been setting back eggs for a week and whining at my husband until he finally gave in and let me buy it.

He promised me an incubator of my choosing last year when during a derby weekend when I was out of town, the coop blew over and all of my chickens disappeared. I did eventually find them all, but he promised, and a promise is a promise. I'd really be interested in doing egg swaps, driving out to meet people and trading eggs to hatch, I'd love some Easter Egger or some standard Cochin eggs to hatch out, and would trade Speckled Sussex and Bantam Cochin eggs for them.

Yes you are. I hatched Dellys out in my last hatch but I only got 7 out of 42. Two of my sources for eggs did not have any growth in their eggs. They stayed clear throughout incubating. One seller gave me 12 eggs and I hatched 8 but one died of open knee joints at birth. I have 10 more in the incubator now but I am worried since I have already taken out two stinkbombs and I am only one day 6 right now. Hopefully I will at least hatch out some.

I also have Light Brahmas which are very heavy early on so far at least and Cochins which are very heavy as well. Going to breed the Dellys pure and eventually switch over to the Brahmas in the second coop. That way we can hatch as many eggs as we want from either coop and hopefully get birds that are large enough for eating but keep the best of them to put back in the breeding pens. ( See how I worked in reasons to keep incubating lol). I am thinking once I am seeing a large amount of fertile eggs I will try a batch to see what happens. If they don't work for me I can sell them for egg layers to others. Most don't care about breeds just want eggs so who knows.

OMG..... So, I'm not the only one? Hi, my name is Sharon, and my husband says I have a problem.

I bought my first incubator about a month ago. The only local bator I could find holds 350 eggs. I figured I could get a bigger one if I needed it later

First, i got 9 Japanese eggs from a friend. The same day, I ordered 21 Silkies from BYC. 3 Days later, I ordered 12 Sizzles and 12 Silkies from BYC and.... 14 more Silkies from BYC. Do you see a problem with this??

I DO NOT see a problem. Now I'm waiting on everyone to hatch, wondering where I'm going to put them. But, I keep telling my husband that they were all shipped eggs and that the best I can hope for is a 60% hatch rate. That's why I needed so many.

My Hubby wants to know if they make a prescription remedy for this problem?

I love this thread, very entertaining!

My husband still thinks that we are all a lost cause because chickens are just for eating and making eggs. I have noticed that when I am not around he has started to watch them and try to pet them on their backs. Maybe if I can talk the girls into ganging up on him we can convert him too.

Hi,
This is the first addiction group that I have ever joined but it looks like a fun, supportive group. My name is Gail and I can't stop hatching eggs. Sometimes I feel like the "Octamom" of chickens. I can't stand to see a fertile egg not have a chance to hatch. My problem (challenge) is that I get over 100 fertile eggs each week from my chickens. I have Buff Orpingtons, Barred Rocks, Black Australorps, Rhode Island Reds, Silkies and Sizzles. Soon I'll have Americanas, Gold Laced Wyandottes and Red Star. The ones I don't sell, I hatch. I have chicks hatching every week. I still get awestruck each time I find a new chick in the incubator. It's really great when there are little kids around to watch the hatching. I have to go. I just heard a little peep from one of my incubators...
