Incubators Anonymous

Woke up this morning to 3 new poults and 4 chicks! Those HUGE eggs that have NEVER hatched... Well this was the last ones I'd set, so stuck em in the hatcher anyway. Only had 3 that I expected to hatch cause te rest were from the chicken who lays the huge ones. Upped the humidity for the turkey eggs, & so far 1 huge egg hatched & 2 more have pipped!!!! Crap!! I sold that chicken cause her eggs wouldn't hatch!! Lol Guess they just needed higher humidity!

Hello! I am new to hatching eggs, and I'm so happy to have found this thread - I've learned so much, thank you! I have to share my excitement: I have 18 eggs in my incubator, on day 9 now, and candled them last night. Of the 18, only 4 were clear. One was iffy, and the other 13 definitely are developing! I know there's still a long way to go, but I'm really thrilled. I told my hubby, who just gave me this strange look and said "okay." So, I figured I'd share with others who might understand my giddiness. Thanks for listening, and thanks for all of the great information!

Hi can some one help me I am using a new incubator with a separate hydrometer for my 12 duck eggs it is reading a little high my temp is 75.5 and stable I only about 50ml of water in there is one small jole in the incubator how do I lower the humidity more or less air HELP LOL :)[/ quote].
your temp is 75.5 or humidity ? Take out the water maybe your home humidity is high .. I incubate in my basment and there is a home dehumidifier down there I know in my house the humidity can run 60 or more depending on the time of year.
hi it's my temp at 75.5 and the humidity is at at 72 to 75 %

Temp should be 99 to 100 F .or 37.7 C For a incubator with a fan slightly higher for still air.that is your problem temp. Is way to low..

Alright if your hydrometer only measures the humidity and wont correct it for you in a couple of hours it can also be accomplished by removing the still water in the incubator and then when you finally get you humidity under 40% then you add a little water till it comes up to the desired percentage but if you add too much water to the incubator this is the problem one will have live and learn ......

the 75.5 is this degrees or Celsius ?

Hi have taken out all the water out the temp is 37.5 c

Nice now once the temp stabilizes you can add a little water at a time and make sure the water is warn or the incubator will have to use it's heat to warm the water and that is a waste of time and energy ,,,,,,,, not as you add water humidity will lower the temp reading as the heat is being used to keep the water in the air heated so let this all stabilize and as you add water to bring your humidity up wait to let you temp settle once everything is stabilized temp and humidity go ahead and add or subtract water for humidity but the temp is most important remember that .....

Hi thanks the temp is very stable at 37.5 someone has now said the temp should be at 37.7 is this why my humidity is to high my book says temp should be 37.5 and humidity at 58% what do you think ? :)
