Hi thanks this was very informative as my humidity is running at about 51% with no water in it I have decided to run it dry and mist my eggs twice and twice aday the humidity goes up to about 80% and then comes down over about 30 ish mins back to 51% the temp is stable at 37.6 c will be candling them on tuesday evening as they will have been in for 7 days if 6 or more are good I will be hatching if not start all over again so storing eggs in case I haven't incubated for so long I forgot so mutch so fingers crossed for Tuesday

lol

Humidity at 51% with out water indicates you have plenty of moisture in the air so you do not need to add water till it is time to lockdown and even then very little water will be needed and misting egg's directly is only for ducks or geese or any other water bird but then when you take the humidity up to 80% you are creating a weather clouds in the incubator and soon small drops of water will start falling on your egg's and soon you will have black spots on the eggs this is not good then on the other hand if you have too much moisture in the air the water level in the egg will not drop and this will cause the chick to drown in the egg so what I am trying to put out is just let the incubator do its job with the humidity where it is and if it will stay above 40% with out you doing anything then you are just lucky to be in that environment

Such a wide array of chickens. And I thought I was crazy trying to do 9 different hatches in 3 incubators, thats why I set up another one for a hatcher.

My big boy incubator can handle about 600 eggs. The hatchers theoretically can hold 150 and 300 but are normally way less as I need to seperate breeds.

If it gets too complicated, I can pull out the styros to hatch as well

Next week I will also be hatching chukar and quail so they will get a styro each

The colored zip ties will be a whole other issue

I did that last year and ended up getting alot mixed up. This year I am using colored hair ties from Family Dollar and just banding my specific breeds instead of worrying about my out crosses as I was working on Jubilees, Lav Orp, Lemon Cuckoo Orp, Bo, Marans, and about a half dozen others which I decided to not do this year. I'm mainly doing BLRW and SS along with some barnyard egg layers. It got to overwhelming trying to keep track of them all. I found your thread last year and got so enthrawled with your venture. It's nice that you documented it to share with others. I only have a Brinsea eco 20, borrowing a Hova-bator (42) and now 2 home made one fits 36 atm but can fit another 36 if I choose and the other I'm using for hatching. I have to stop building incubators as I'm already in over my head with eggs and chicks. I plan on for now just giving them away to kids for 4-H or anyone who would like to start a flock and at some point selling my BLRW and SS when I feel they are worthy.

hi it is duck eggs I am doing I take the lid off completely to mist and the water quickly evaporates I just worry that they will be to dry

the story at cocobeach continues - some major twists in the last two weeks but we are doing well.

I actually have several color zip ties but I reserve them for the tough calls - like when I am incubating black orps, austalorps and jersey giants. The RIR and NH will get some as with the SFH because they look to much like my mutts with a touch of polish in them

So here is some of my research...

Please note that these eggs all came to me in Southern California. They were then repacked in size appropriate foam, and placed in three layers USPS Regional Flat Box B. The boxes were padded externally and then shipped in luggage to Asia - 7500 miles

I have 1000s of eggs with data but this is my most recent hatch.I need more data on eggs that are not effected by the overseas flight to be most useful to the research paper

I will be setting up a new thread with a form so that hopefully I can get good help from BYCers. To participate in the final research (apart from the questions I earlier asked to be PMd, I will need a control group local egg hatch of > 50% of the shipped eggs. You will have the option of giving your name or user name. If you supply me with your name I will add you as a co-author. The goal is to get it published in a peer reviewed scientific journal.
