Incubators Anonymous

So I have been considering getting an additional incubator to use as a hatcher, since having to wait three weeks to get more eggs is just killing me. I don't know if I'm going to get it this year since I have been only doing shipped eggs and I can only squeeze 30 ish in my brinsea 24 (and they require a bit of handling if I do that, which I would rather not do anymore). But maybe for next year OR just use it as another incubator this year.........

So I've been thinking about this one http://www.amazon.com/GQF-1588-Gene...qid=1398950641&sr=8-1&keywords=hovabator+1588
but if I were to use it as an incubator, I would have to get a turner (at work all day

) which would bring it to almost $200! (I know, not really THAT much but I have a million other farm related projects next in line for that money). Know of any less expensive but still reliable alternatives? What does everyone else use? I think the cooler bator is out, I'm the opposite of the skills needed to make one of those.

I have the most basic Farm Innovators Incubator. I also bought the automatic egg turner. Then eventually the Quail racks. The thermometer isn't the most reliable so I picked up one of those digital reptile ones for like $7. The bator with the egg turner is about $100, so half the price. I mean, it's really basic, but it has worked out great for me. I had it turned off for a few months, but other than that it ran non-stop for a year!

This one holds 42 with the turner, much more if you take it out.

have you looked on ebay or craigslist or something similar? we use the farm innovator with fan and turner for the first part and a separate cheapy one for lock down and it has worked well for us...

Think a little giant ( I think that's what they are called), the Styrofoam ones from TSC/Runnings, would suffice for just using it as a hatcher? I'm so used to my brinsea just taking care of everything, even though this is only my 2nd hatch, that I'm a bit intimidated by have to actually watch the humidity etc.

Second question, those of you with the cooler bators, can you somehow put the basic turners in those? I really like the idea of having all the room to put different stages of eggs in there. (Planning on hatching a lot of my own eggs next year from the breed pens I want to get done this year)

http://www.amazon.com/Farm-Innovators-4200-Circulated-Incubator/dp/B007571DFM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1398952092&sr=8-1&keywords=farm+innovators+incubator is this the one you are referring too? Its the only one I could find with circulated air.....but this one comes with a turner also.

I have this and have finally got it dialed in so that it fluctuates 1/2 degree higher or lower than 99.5. I find the humidity very hard to regulate. Especially at hatch. It does not have a separate water liner but I can sterilize the bottom by running it through the dishwasher.

Does the humidity just get to high around hatch time or?
