Incubators Anonymous

I got my eggs! Tons of extras. I bought 3 dozen. I have 20 blue black splash ameraucanas, 7 cream legbar, and 20 coturnix quail eggs. My incubator is gonna be packed. I'm so sorry excited. I picked them up sort of far away and spent $50 on the eggs and maybe $25 on gas. I hope they have a good hatch rate. I'm putting the chicken eggs in tomorrow and the quail in about 5 days. I hope that leads to a similar hatch day. I put them in a cooler on top of a frozen water jug wrapped in a towel. People here in AZ use wine coolers to store but I don't want to spend the money.

Good luck on your hatch

looks like 2 babies died while trying to hatch last night :( I've looked at my humidity, and its high, so not sure what happened. I still have 3 eggs in there though, and we are still in day 21 right now, and so hopefully they will pop out soon. of the 2 striped brown babies, looks like I have 1 roo and 1 girl (itty bitty comb on one is much bigger and more define then on the other). so hopefully i will get more girls of the 3 left.

if the humidity is too high, it makes breathing difficult for new chicks. also, if you don't have enough air ventilation that also will kill them since they suffocate.

ok that scares me, cuz there are 3 chicks in there atm and im not home to see if they are ok... Now both my hydrometers say that the humidity is at 60% and not higher...

oh ok... didn't know any had actually hatched. if they're hatched they're probably fine. but ventilation is still very important.

the #1 cause for late quitters is too high a humidity during incubation IMO. a few will be able to overcome that but not all will.

Someone who bought 12 eggs from me (I sent 15), reported back 11 healthy hatched chicks! Not bad for shipped eggs!

:weee
wow wish I had that kind of luck, I just did a day 10 candle on a batch of ebay eggs and not one developed. The seller very kindly gave me a refund for them, even though I didn't ask for one. Just wanted to let them know in case there was some other problem going on with the flock.

I have another batch that just had day 10 too and I only had to throw two of those so far, very promising.
