Incubators Anonymous

I am going to have to call a lone hatchling i had this morning Lucky...I had a 7 hr power outage , a tornado about 5 miles from my house while we had the kids in the basement we peaked at eggs in the incubator (what else you going to do with no power and freaked out kids)..so with no power and me having opened it, thinking power would be back soon I had a lone FBCM hatch sometime between 10 pm and 11 am it was dry so thinking earlier during the outage.. it was sitting happily between the rails of the turner I have about a two inch gap right down the center of my turner..I have the yellow plastic chinese 48 egg one..it does a good job hold temps pretty good but I had left the stryofoam packaging on the bottom of the one i ise as an incubator so it was well insulated..

It has been 115 F degrees for several weeks now and I think the
heat is shrinking the egg's or a couple of them think they are
Quail but how funny ......

Had 5 quail in the bator this morning before I left for work, all hatched on sunday. Really hoping I have some more little fluffers in there, though I've never had anything hatch later than the first day.... Sure hope this time is different, because there are actually probably 10 eggs left in there.

So you don't need an incubator to hatch out chicks -- you need a cooler!!

My turkeys start panting when it's over 75 degrees (that's a hot day around here!) I can't imagine a bird surviving in that type of heat. What do you do to keep them cool?

You are correct the incubator has to be in a room with a swamp cooler blowing on it to get it cold enough to hatch the egg's bravo

The animals go underneath the sheds for most of the day and hang out around the 5 gallon water bottles and I do have to add ice in the heat of the day also I get blankets from the second hand store and place them on the ground and then turn the hose on them and the chickens and ducks also the geese sit on them but it is a trick as I have to add ACV to the water or they will sound sick on the really hot days when it get's over 120+ F degrees oh and a lot of Electrolyte that I buy by the box not the bag and the ACV I also buy by the case not the bottle .....

75 F degrees that is winter weather here ....

These chicks I put outside just before 4 weeks old and it was the end of January 2014 and it was that warm I only put a blanket over them to keep the wind out ....

Our winters are short here so I buy house blankets to sleep on and cover up with a bead sheet that is a cold winter here ....... Oh it did snow back in 2010 about 20 miles from here and I had to turn on the heater for over a week ya that was bad ....

I would never be able to handle that, if it's 80 deg out I think it's too hot. :p
