Incubators Anonymous

Oh no my incubator has escaped from its box and got itself some eggs.

Only just set but can't wait already:weee

You have to watch those incubators... they do have a way of finding eggs... just don't feed them after midnight, that is when they get really dangerous : )

Heaven help me, I'm getting ready to set more eggs. I have a problem. I just can't stop.

Question for the incubation gurus. I'm using a new digital thermostat to control temps, and it doesn't allow tinkering with tenths of a degree like my old one did. I prefer 99.5 on the dot. This one only does one degree increments. I have two scientific traceable thermometers inside the incubator verifying actual temp range. So my problem is that when I set the thermostat for 100, it's giving me a range of 98-99 degrees. If I bump it up one degree to 101, it's giving me a range of 99-100 degrees. Which should I go with - the 98-99, or the 99-100? Am I just being too OCD about temps?

Thanks.
We're not here to help you with your problem; we're here to enable you in your hatching addiction.

Yes, I think you're being OCD about the temp, but I would go with the slightly lower range because I, in my house, with my incubators, and all that goes along with me hatching eggs....have trouble keeping the temp low enough, not high enough....
That's just me. You've got to do what works best for you. Also, it depends on where you're measuring the temperature. If you're measuring at the egg, then the temp is 99.5, if you're measuring at the top of the egg, the temp is supposed to be 101.5*F. Make sense?
Oh, yeah, just to clarify, I'm not a guru. I've read a bunch of stuff (b/c I've had a lot of failed hatches and I'm trying to eliminate the problems....most of them are that I need automatic temp control and automatic turning)

I may be getting a trio of Blue Standard Cochins this weekend. If I can convince DH to get them, that is. So I might be hatching again real soon. lol

Yay!!! More hatching!!!

I am so jealous!!!!! I would love a reason to keep hatching, get paid and they already have a home!!!

A hatch-a-holic's dream....*sigh*

My poor 8 year old daughter has aquired my incubating addiction. I caught her numbering more eggs, writing down the egg number and today's date on a peice of paper. She was getting ready to put them in the incubator! Lol I told her we started these ones over a week ago and we should hold off. She agreed but was not fully happy so we candled all of the incubated ones. Good news ALL of the eggs are growing!!!! I can't wait! I love it!!!

Ah...passing on our addictions...I mean knowledge and experience...to future generations!!!

Yay for your good news!!!

For me, its cause my chickens aren't lazy little back talking jerks!

I need some like that (that aren't sex-links). Hopefully the chicks I've bought this month will be better chickens. =)

Oh, baby!!! DH is getting me an incubator like that!!! (well, one with a mind of its own lol)

One of the greatest dangers is that the incubator itself, can multiply... first you have one and it is so nice and sweet, but you look again and you have 2 or 3 or more. Some may call themselves "hatchers", but don't be fooled by that!

Actually, I'm seriously considering a Dickey. But that's a huge amount of money. It could take me months to save up enough.
