I finished my new bator hmm hoping to have a test run before too long

Looks good!!!

Not me....I hide, hide, hide! My husband says "how many eggs to you have in the incubator now" and I say, I'm not sure, but only half will hatch, and half of those will be roosters, so it's not as many as it looks like! I have actually said to him; "Don't talk about my chickens to people! It's PRIVATE!!"

Now, THAT"S a sickness!!

Nice setup! I was just about to start building two more homebuild incubators, but found a smoking deal on some old sportsman incubators I'll just retrofit with digital controllers.

And her new chicks ,, cute but she had me so worried ...

I hate it when they worry me!!! You'd think they'd have some consideration for those who feed and shelter them! <0.0> (that's my hands-on-hips emoticon)

Both of the ones I've had disappear into the woods (last summer) didn't come back.

People bring their kids and the preschools in the area have signed up for field trips to see our "petting zoo".... i want to add pygmy goats just because.... don't tell my dh though lol

I've finally gotten my DH on board with the idea of having a goat and even getting one (probably next year). Next order of business (which I have already commenced) is to help him understand that goats are herd animals, which means you can't have just one and two is a couple, so three is the lowest number of goats that can be considered a herd. (Don't tell my DH about my Jedi mind tricks, okay?)

When he came I explain Cocci and how it works and that they should be fine if treated with Corrid, plus threw in a freebie it was only the youngest of the groups, which was 2 that he got. All the older ones should be fine, unless they have issues with switching homes of course. He seemed to understand and knows what to watch for in the others. It actually turned out well because he was completely unaware of how each property could have strains that any chicken he purchased from anywhere could be susceptible too, so he was happy to learn something new!

I'm always learning new stuff with the birds. I would've never thought things could be so complicated sometimes! In the other hand 90% of the time it's so simple how can you not have chickens?

Ha Ha!! I would be the queen of that thread! I would call sweetly to my pen of pullets "Let's count the chickies!! Let's count the chickies!" and then throw mealworms to them! See the association? They would run around like mad in anticipation of their treat and be IMPOSSIBLE TO COUNT!!

This is a science!!!

DH told me 2 years ago "We aren't getting chickens" See how well that worked for him?

I slowly sucked him in with those documentaries on netflix about commercial chicken keeping vs backyard chicken keeping.

He claimed I would never be able to kill a chicken. So I bought an adult rooster for $5, killed it, cleaned it, put it in brine, smoked, baked it and fed it to him!

I'm spoiled I'll get what I want eventually! We have an enormous blackberry problem and I think 5 goats would be good... for starters. I want Scottish highland cattle too but that has to wait for our 28 year old quarter horse to expire and hes an tough old man. He'll probably live to 40!

I vacillate between wanting to share my passion for incubating with people and not wanting them to know that I actually bought MORE eggs!

There is an auction ending in a hour and 20 minutes... I wonder if I can resist...

and my duck is going broody again... of course she needs a couple eggs to hatch... and if I get a few extras then she will be more likely to at least get a couple ducklings... right?!

I just pretend that the chickens I have laid the eggs I am incubating... I almost believe it myself...

Hey about Pygmy goats: Don't let their lack of stature deceive you. They can jump 4 feet! If we get goats again it will be Myatonic Goats (TN Fainting Goats or the Silkies). They can't jump or low crawl very well.
