The blanket idea is the simplest.

Because DH is in IT /Computers, we usually have "left-overs" in our garage. I like to grab a UPS (uninterrupted power supply) that has a battery back up & protects from electrical surges. When the power goes out, whatever is plugged into it is saved from ruin & runs off the battery - also sounds a beeping alarm. I wouldn't actually spend $ on the product for this use, but if you happened to have one.... (Computers are costly, so it's worth it to save a computer & it's data.)

You might not want/safe to get out now, Just for info----- for future incubating-----If you have a vehicle parked close to your home, you can get one of these or similiar http://www.walmart.com/ip/Generic-D...ith-2-AC-Outlets-and-USB-Port-DN350W/17473221 ---plug it into your car----run a drop cord from it to your smaller incubators and run it. You will have to go out and crank your vehicle every few hours(according to how strong your battery is). These are good for emergencies. You could also buy a "Good" used battery that you keep charged in your storage----bring it in during these times----hook to this inverter---only run the heat on your WRAPPED UP incubator a few minutes per hour being you can not keep recharging the battery. You can not draw off a battery for hours and hours without recharging but it will help alot if your power only stays out a few hours.

If Mine goes out I have to use the generator because I am running 3 225/250 watt cabinet incubators(about 600 eggs) and heat on 8 brooders.

Question: I have a new Brinsea Eco Mini that I will be using just for the last 3 days of incubating (lockdown). It came with a thermometer across the top 1/3 of the unit. When I turned it on to see how it worked, it constantly was reading 104 degrees! This was straight from the factory. So, I put in three of my other thermometers/hygrometers in there. They were all over the place. One was 100, 99.5, 97 and 93! So, now what do I do? What is the best thermometer/hygrometer out there? Do you guys do the calibrating test with salt/ice? Does that really work?

I have no problem hatching eggs with my Hova Bator genesis 1588, but I wanted this little unit so I could do mini staggered hatches. Anyone have one of these units? Anything I need to know?
