I've got one of those giant satellite dishes out in the yard collecting trash... (broken lawn chairs, trash cans whatever the wind blows into it...) I'm hoping to get a large post sunk this fall and turn it into a chickie umbrella maybe... put some perches on the post for them to get off the ground and out of the weather. right now they're hanging out under the deck (or in the house if the door's open). hubby's not so thrilled.

Great idea! I've seen many of those satellite dishes that I bet I could pick up for free...love the recycling angle

I should update my page... my new coop was made from old palletts, the shingles came off an old barn (i'm still working on staining and putting on the roof). the door is the side of a computer case LOL. my hoop pen was leftover electrical conduit, but I did buy new pressure treated 2x4s and wire, and the old house is a dog house...

the only thing i've bought new are the 'bators... hovabator 1602 and 1582 (both still air, the 1582 is picture window style). i'm setting the 1602 with turner (used off ebay) and going to use the 1582 as hatcher. both have 12v computer case fans installed with old transformers. the 1602's fan is actually on a 9v transformer that runs 'hot' at 13v, and the 1582's fan is on a 6v transformer that runs at 9v... talk about cheap overseas electronics. no wonder whatever they came with died... (going lower volts just means the fan doesn't turn quite as fast...)

Hello, my name is Rachel, and I, too, am an incubating addict.
I am new to the addiction, as my broody is sitting on actual fertilized eggs for the first time. We are 5 days to hatch.
I can already tell, no matter how the rest of my "high" plays out, I will want to do it again, very, very soon!!!

You lot aren't really trying to quit, are you? I mean, nobody is really working The Program or trying to Recover, are they?
(maybe I hould have read through this thread before posting....

welcome , Rachel ! No, most of us are not interested in giving up, reducing, or even cutting back. After all, everything eats chickens. We don't want to be at risk of running out of them.:-D
