Incubators Anonymous

The group in the LG has a OE that pipped--humidity is up. I use sponges in the homemade as well to increase RH--work quickly to raise the RH. Nothing on the marans yet. Sometimes I hate hatching--it's an emotional roller coaster, and always the reminder of "be patient, stay calm" I say to myself. Need a smiley that is pulling out hair! LOL

I went to check on the eggs again--OE is out! My first shipped egg has hatched!

THen while adding the warm wet sponges to the homemade I heard a little cheep. I looked over every egg! Desperite for it to be a marans. But not a marans, rather one of my wonderful mutts has pipped. At least I know the incubators are doing their job! Please let some of these marans hatch . . . .

Oh, right . . ."patience, patience, patience . . . "

NEED SOME HELP WITH HATCH DATE
Have I counted wrong? Set Nov 22 at 1am and thought they were due today Dec 12 as day 21. Am I off a day? I'm so confused. I set by the moon, and this is the info I just pulled from that thread.

"CHICKEN EGGS 21 DAYS
SET NOV 20,21,22 WILL HATCH DEC 11,12,13"

The real due date is Dec13?

A second marans has pipped. Each from a different line. Yeah! THe anxiety is killing me. And I need to go to work tomorrow! Maybe it's better to go to work as I poked my nose into the incubators a zillion times today . . . . LOL

Don't you wish you had one of this mini camcorders at times like this? At least you could view it when something happens at night. Try to get some rest. You'll probably wake up in the middle of the night anyway, at least I do when it's lockdown. From day 18 til the hatch, I just automatically wake up sometime during the middle of the night. Congrats on the two pips

My gosh, between feeling crummy , Christmas shopping, building coops, feeding critters, I missed lockdown on two trays of eggs! I went to turn the eggs and there was a peeping! A SLW chick had hatched before I even moved them to the hatcher! And after i moved that tray of eggs, i thought that was it, but next time i went to turn eggs there were baby quail running around everywhere! Maybe you really don't need to lockdown at this rate.... But i did move both trays to the hatcher. Then the incubator in the hall opened its own door and the temperature was down to 93. i sure hope it doesn't kill those chicks.

I have the opposite problem - my temp is steady but suddenly my humidity dropped to 19% in 1 day! It's got to be the dry dry weather here. We keep the wood fire going and humidifier in the house turned on, but do to those cathedral ceiling I think the moisture goes straight up and never reaches us.If I don't go to bed with spa gloves on, my hands get so dry that they turn pink on top. My DH thought I had burned one cooking! Anyway, this is the first time I've incubated eggs here in the winter, so I guess I'm going to have to adjust to adding water every day instead of every 2 or 3 days.

Well ,if you can't buy one, just build one. Lots of info on DIY incubators on here cheap. I build my own coops, and egg sales pay for chicken feed. Mine has quit complaining about more chickens, and has even helped build the latest coop!:)
