Incubators Anonymous

My kids and I built an incubator as a science project. We ran it for 3 days and it maintained a temp of 99.2 - 100.1, humidity of 54%. We found a local lady that has quail and she gave us a dozen eggs to give our bator a test run. 17 days and counting. It's kind of like waiting for Christmas, isn't it? If these hatch, I'm going to try some chickens. My ducks all sit and hatch their own so I don't need to bother with ducks.
ducks will sit on chicken eggs too, just don't let momma take the babies for a swim...

Hello, my name is Jessica, I too, am a incubator addict. I religiously have enough eggs ready by hatch day to instantly put a whole new batch in right after I clean the incubator. We are on our 5th batch already this year. . . I have tried to talk my husband into getting a commercial size incubator, he said no. . . but little does he know that I'm going to make him build me one. I just love seeing the baby chicks. It's like having a new present every 3 weeks. . like 42 new babies! I just love it and can't get enough of it. . but it is somewhat embarrassing when people ask me how many chickens we have. . and I never know.

Everyone has an opinion but, 54% humidity seems kinda high. I try not to let mine get over 40% and try for 25-35% range for incubation. Hatch.... 60% and up to 75% is ok. I can't really control the humidity when they start hatching so it spikes sometimes.

My broody laid and egg today, does that mean she is done? She can't get away from the chicks so I may not be able to just figure it out. Nice dark egg too

alex's bantie was put in a day after and is still doing well, although he is sad that it has not hatched yet, lol- he is 8 so he is super excited and is forgetting we put it in the incubator a day late, lol....i am very happy that we are having such better numbers so far, everyone is doing great and i can't wait to get some pics up... as long as i can't sleep i might just get some of what we have now and update... those lil bamties are so tiny and such a lively lil bunch!!
