good luck!!

I've got my very first hatch due on June 7th also. How exciting!

I have 18 in lock down since yesterday morning. I set them at 6pm so though I should have locked them down at 6 pm but I had to move them into my HM bater because I have 11 egg in the genesis yet for another week before lock down. But I was going to be gone all day yesterday and was afraid I would be too tired to lock them down last nite so I did it yesterday morning. OK. So I got up this morning and checked everything out and figured they would not do anything until tomorrow at least or later. Everything was just fine sitting there. I took my dog for a walk to the outside house to check on the other three batches of chicks I have out there.

They were all hungry and happy. So I fed them and came back and I always go right to the baters to look at them. WOW! I have a pip in the HM bater. Only think it is at the small end and has a little blood showing and a little yellow. I took it out (I know, I know) and listened and could hear a little click, click in there so I quick put it back. I would like them all to hatch today because I am gone tomorrow until about three.
Heres the pip!

Heres the whole batch of eggs I have hatching right now.

i've had a number of chicks pip mid-shell or small end, and most don't have a problem hatching on their own... just make sure humidity is up.

i'll cross fingers for your egg. my primary rule for lockdown is not to open once someone pips unless i HAVE to... i've lost too many shrink wrapped chicks over the years.

She is still chipping away. I am going to be home today so I can watch the progress and if it gets too dicey I will see if I can help. I did have to help one of the last hatch that pipped just about the same place. I just opened a little and put it back and it finally finished up. Humidity is up to 69 right now.

You know those eggs I set for trade day..... they ALL hatched....

CL ads are going up tomorrow when I figure out EXACTLY what I have. On the bright side I got 1 Lavender Am.... boy they are sure hard to come by.... 1 out of 6 is a lavender at my house.

I have some SLW eggs in the bator and when I last checked them 1 was WAY behind the others but MOVING, What should I do? Give it a chance or toss it.... they are nice quality lines so I don't really want to toss it, but if it is going to cause problems down the road I will. I had this happen once before too, but it was sooooo far behind it was scary and it was in an egg that had a blood ring, so I did toss that one. I am going to check them again today if it is still going what should I do? Today is Lockdown......

Donna if it is a nice line where every chick matters, then put in lock down with the others. and continue turning it when you can. It may quit at some point anyways. Or it may do fine.

Because I running batches often just a few days apart, I don't follow the lockdown rules. IMO eggs dry out too much when a chick takes too long to zip after the pip. This has been my observation.
