IncuCube Bator

My temp has been holding steady at 100.0, it's been pretty dry here so I've been watching the humiditylevel pretty closely. Right now I have 4 turkey eggs in there and am going to add some RIRs on day 7. At that time I think I'm going to add a hose for adding water to a sponge/saucer type set up as suggested, otherwise I don't see how to easily add water with a full 12 eggs init. I've gotten a reply that I'm getting a new turner sent to me so I'm pleased with the reponse from the company. Overall I think the size is great for me since I don't want to set that many eggs ever. I used velcro and taped my therm/hydro meter on the side out of the way. I just had to move one of the turkey eggs over one slot since it was getting in the way with the turner. (My DH glued the arm back on for now it's holding-he's the best). Fingers are crossed for my first hatch:fl

I bought an Octagon 20 after using a Hovabator and Little Giant for a couple years. I like the Octagon 20's stability and washability best. It stayed on temp like a rock. Its heater switches on and off with more frequency to maintain the temperature. The other two incubators have larger capacity but the temperature stability is not as even. I tested all with one mercury and two different digital thermometers. The chicks have less to hang up their legs because there is no internal turner because the whole incubator rocks on its cradle. I also like it because the holders are adjustable, and also because when going into the no-turn phase on day 19, you fill the water reservoir and don't have to fill again. The only drawback is it gets crowded for hatching in there when all 24 chicken eggs start popping open, but they seem to be fin untill all are dry and ready to brood.

Well first candle is done. 4 were clear. 3 of these came from a breeder where 85% were fine in the other bators.
3 were very iffy. I kept them in there for hope's sake.

I'm hoping I get 3 chicks out of the original 12 eggs.

Well let's give it another 10 days and then we'll evaluate.

Remember, I had the misfortune of having the plastic cover come off of one side and it remained that way probably most of the night on day 3.... and it got down to 69 in our family room that night.

The amazing thing is that I still have 8 eggs in there after first candle... and I'm still hopeful.

I had a quick look at the 10 eggs I put in mine Wednesday and it looks like for sure 6 are good now these were shipped eggs and I have had no issues with mine although adding water today and spilled some on the floor of the cube it has shot the humidity up to 70 but I'm sure it will go back down if not I can remove one of those containers I've only had 2 with water and it's been keeping it at 40-45% I let it go empty and it was at 30 so I'm not too worried the temp in mine has been rock steady 99.8

Wish I could get my temp to stay "rock steady" O well, such is luck and my life!... but I really do want all of my polish eggs to hatch! Just for fun!!

Im at day 7 and so far all 5 of my eggs look like they are growing. Good veining. My temp has been great, very happy about that. Im hand turning mine 3 times a day. Question, does anyone know if it has enough air for the chicks during lockdown? Or, do I need to drill some holes in it?

Just an update on my IncuCube bator. I have had it running now for 5 days and so far the temp has been very stable at 100F..I may adjust the knob just a teenie tiny bit to try and get down closer to the 99.5F area..I have kept two of the water cups full..at all times and my humidity has maintained an even 59-60% level day and night.

THe bad: I superglued the broken "arm" back onto my egg turner, and then silicone lubed all moving joints and fired it up. It is working..but one thing I noticed is that the little motor housing is very HOT to the touch. Like burn hot..not just warm. I can't help but think this would affect the temperature inside the incubator.

I just took my turners "temperature" using my children's forehead thermometer scanner....and the temp of the little turner motor was currently at 106F...so either the motor will have to be somehow located outside the bator or a new low heat alternative will need to be found I think.

Just thought I would update you on my IncuCube also. I have the turner going and have kept track by hand since 4/3 the temp. It has been very steady, the highest it has gotten in 9 days is 100 degrees, and the lowest is 99.1 degrees. 95% of the time it is either 99.3 - 99.6. One thing I have really noticed is that the temp knob is very sensative. If you want tempt to go up or down you need to move it just a nudge. I have 13 eggs shipped to me and after I candled them the second time on day eight I still have 12 of the 13 going. I'm not sure how they will hatch out okay but I know there is something in there. I have two containers with water in them and my humidity has been pretty steady between 30% and 40%. I have been the lucky one I guess with this IncuCube, I haven't had much bad luck. I have notice one side of the turner slants more than the other side, but I'm sure they are turning enough. I have also noticed that the turner motor is very warm to the touch, hopefully the eggs closest to the motor won't have any issues. Good luck everyone, my lockdown is on 4/19. I will keep everyone informed on how things go.
