indexed but not sexed silkie chicks.. indexed? ???

Sorry, I'll go with the results that say it works well over 90% of the time...

If this worked on those breeds 90% of the time, all the hatcheries would be using this method. Like @Ladycat said, the birds have to be bred for this trait for it to work. I have had Silkies and Polish for several years and this definitely does not work for them. 4 months is awful soon to decide it is working. Good quality Silkies are too young to know for sure until they lay (or crow). I've been surprised more than once when I was "sure". Polish aren't much easier to tell.
Just don't want anyone being mislead.

As far as being "indexed", I have no idea but it would lead me to believe he thinks he is organized. Lol

I have have no problem with someone looking chicks over before they buy them. I never seem to have a shortage of females after a couple people have picked through them though. On the other hand, I can start picking out some of the males by a couple weeks and will sell them cheaper to someone who wants them. Not the Silkies and Polish but most of my other chicks.

I believe hatcheries use vent sexing which is 100%? As far as this method, until we have anyone tell us we were wrong with what we sold them, we're going to keep using it...So good so far!!!!! And it's not like we won't work with them, we'll take back ANY rooster, especially ANY Polish as well as Buff and White silkies, they're worth a mint around here...

Well i got 2 one week old silkies today and apparently it was just a typo he meant unsexed, lol i dont know. Is it possible to vent sex a silkie? They r one week? Hopefully at least one turns out a girl!! Thanks for alls help!! Now we know! Lol

congrats on your babies. The only possible way to sexed them is by dna sex. I did dna sexing for my one little silkie and it was a girl (lucky). I think the fee was 17.50 in florida via blood sample.

I would be leery of buying any birds off of Craig's list but, that's me. You can get 'played' at swaps and chickenstocks and everywhere else if you aren't a savvy buyer.

I would suggest spending more on an older bird and getting exactly what you want. All silkie chicks are adorable.

My friend got some gorgeous silkies at 4-5 mos. of age from a show breeder several states away. They were gorgeous though the seller rated them breeding quality. . She had many photos in BYC and description of why they were this quality or that. Price which was very fair included shipping charges. They arrived clean, healthy and sweet.

I have tried to refer many folks to her but, apparently she is selling through other methods. She had told me with the last bird my friend got, that she wasn't happy with ad results and was going to use another venue. My friend has no computer so I would do the looking and then show her photos.

Yes, be very, very careful. There are a lot of scammers out there.

I do sell though Craig's List, but I've built up a reputation for honesty, fair prices, and good healthy stock, and I actually get a lot of referrals from previous customers (and I have a lot of repeat customers).

But not everyone is like me. Some are out to part the gullible from their money.

Is that 17.50 per chick, to sex?
Unfortunately yes :( it's expensive but saves time growing out and feeding something you wont keep if you have just a small amount. For our family it was worth it, we all had fun guessing and were surprise that we had a hen out of sheer luck. Only chick that was hatched that is. The site I used is below, they sent an email with the results.

Doesn't mypetchicken offer sexed Silkies? I thought I'd read that somewhere, but I can't remember. If they do, I don't imagine they're having them DNA sexed...
