I have very early-hatched chicks growing out in an indoor brooder which resulted from pea-hormone confusion and over-wintering with heat lamps. The oldest chick (incidentally male) hatched the last week of February. Chicks may still be hatching in some areas of the country in August and even September. As two year-olds, one chick could be 6 or 7 months older than another -- one of them is past two already, and the other isn't quite there yet...
So maybe not a late bloomer if it's a late hatcher![]()
