INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

I'm on the west side of Indy, I've been looking for something at Purdue but haven't been able to find anything

I know 2 people that took a class on it. I'll see if I can find out where they did it at, But I thought it was Purdue.

I love Jersey cows!

When I was about 12, we had a Jersey cow for milk. She was so tame that we could pet her on the face. Most cows don't like that.

I don't remember trying to ride her, I think Dad convinced us (3 boys 12, 11, 9) that we would break down her back and ruin her. She was smaller than the meat cows (Herefords, I think) which we rode (briefly before falling off) whenever we thought Dad wasn't looking.

We couldn't ski behind her either because when we grabbed her tail, she wouldn't go anywhere. There were many things more fun for us to do than stand behind a stationary cow holding her tail.

She would lay down to chew her cud and we would sit on her and grab her horns and twist her head side to side, hollering something like "Hyah, bull-dogger wrestling the fierce bull to the ground". She paid almost no attention to us and would continue chewing her cud.

I saw some at the Boone County Fair the other day, which brought back those memories of the 50's rather vividly. I avoided the temptation to jump on their show cows and relive the past. Besides which, they were de-horned, so it wouldn't be the same.

Thanks is appreciate that!
I guess it was through ABS, different farms host the classes. I can' t get ahold of the ones that actually did it. This is just what one of the wives said. she said you have to get ahold of ABS to see when they are doing it next. Now she doesn' t know what ABS stands for so, neither do I so you might be able to google it or ask a livestock vet.

ALL of my girls are laying!!! I got a dozen eggs today!!!

We have 3 of 5 windows framed in! Here is the view to the south from the coop addition. :D (The mound of dirt on the other side of the wall is to back fill the coop addition once the welded wire fence and gravel is down.)

I have what I hope is a question, and not a problem!

I believe one of my Silver Leghorns has started laying. The eggs are white, and quite a bit bigger than the phoenix and fayoumi eggs I have been getting. This is impressive considering they are all the same size birds.

However, both the eggs I've gotten so far have had blood smears on them.

Does anyone know if this is just something that happens sometimes when a pullet starts laying? Or is it a sign that there may be a problem?
