INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Thank you and you are welcome to borrow the stencil if you like. I have one other with roosters but its not up yet. I got sidetracked by the house. I'll get back to the coop when my DH finishes my run.

I know a family with some odd chickens.... They have a mottled Japanese Bantam pair. The hen went broody and they let her hatch 6 eggs. The rooster helped her hatch the chicks AND still warms them on cold rainy days with the hen. The chicks are now 2 months...hen has went broody again bit still won't give up the 2 month olds! AND the rooster is helping hatch again!! Has anyone ever heard of this happening!??!

Brad- the nutriena link showed the info. Not sure how it actually helps with mites though. At first I thought it would be like the heart worm pill for dogs but it reads to me Ike its just a hyped up feed. I could be wrong!!!

So anyone else heard of this? Just saw it on Facebook.

I'm curious to see what exactly is his mite-fighter technology. Is it a drug, pesticide, etc? I can't find anything that says what it is.

I'd like to know what it is too. The feed is from Cargill, so I don't hold out a lot of hope that it has been truly tested as to what the feed transfers into the egg.

I have heard of this before. really good determined mothers wont want to give them up and will be very protectiive of them. And I have heard of roosters who will help raise and "babysit" the chicks. I wish I had a pair like this. My hens arent going broody and I dont know if my roosters are like that, becuase they have never been around chicks.

OK, I'm just going to throw this out there and see what, if anything, happens. As seen below, I made some drips on my rooster stencil and have started corrections using actual white paint that will be painted over with the off white coop stain. When I went inside to clean said stencil, my three and five year old helpers decided that I was not doing enough to the coop and it needed even more white. Can you see it?

Is it bugging anyone? Anyone who might want to fix it that is, lol. Because I'm totally open to the help painting and I have an ENTIRE GALLON of off white stain that could be used to fix this issue.

Oh, and in addition to this, I am also staining the cabin a new color (on the right) where there might be some drippage, so that too is available if you get the urge to paint something (especially if you have scaffolding to reach the back corner)

Pipd, I'd available to help with plants if you ever want to add those too. Your chicks are pretty lucky and I really love how much thought you put into making the base secure. Really good job.

You guys had me cracking up.
Thank you.
Wow, I love that cabin!! Coop is nice too.

I have had some people try and convince me to use ferminated feed. I know it would save me a lot of money. But to me it just seems lke to much time and effort. But some one did tell me that if you feed your chickens oats it will fill them up faster. But dont feed them to much becuase it could mess up how they mature. Sounds a little fishy to me, but i mean can it really hurt?

Mine get leftover instant oatmeal every so often. just the original flavor. no real impact good or bad. They still eat the same amount of their feed too on those days. That said too much of almost anything is rarely is a good thing. I have read about too many oats causing horses and cows issues.

I dont see how this would help with mites. And when I clicked on the second link I couldnt find a price. Nutrena expensive anyways so I know I wont buy it lol.

The bag is smaller and the price typically the same or higher. I agree without the package plainly saying such and such has been added to prevent mites, I'm not buying it. I do feed 18% all flock though. But I do not keep food in the feeders all day as the directions on the bag says to do. Adults get fed in the evening and once out of the brooder, little ones get fed twice a day. Brooding chicks do have food for the majority of daylight hours.
