INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Cluckacres~ so glad to hear you are back, and everything is fine with your wife and baby. I'll be going up there this afternoon. If I didnt have all of tomorrow set for my brother and their new baby, I would stop by! Maybe spring break? We are on year round school here so we get the last 2 weeks off in march. You know... we should set up a date sometime for the northern indiana BYC member to meet up, and then the southern.

Hello from Velpen, Indiana! I've been with BYC for nearly a year, but just found this thread. We started our flock last March, 2012 with 30 chicks of Rhode Island Reds. Had one hen hatch a small clutch of 6 last September and hope to hatch more this Spring. Have eggs coming out our ears but love it. I would be willing to help with Excel or any way I can. Love the thread!

Bwindell~ what a beautiful flock! Looks like they have a great area to forage. I am hoping one of mine will go broody this summer so I can have chicks too. Its so nice when they sit on them, turn them, and do all the work :) what do you do with all your eggs? Do you have a good list of customers?

I live in Greenville In and I have a smal flock of 15 chickens. I have 14 silkies and 1 ameracuana. I have only had chicken since May of last year. I have fallen in love with them and can't wait to get more. I am looking to add a few more ameracuanas to my flock if anyone has some for sale.
Welcome. You'll have to post pictures of your flock !!

Anyone sell their eggs at a farmers market? I have a email in to the local farmers market trying to get some info. Wondering if anyone here sells and what kind of hoops you had to jump through to sell at your farmers market.

We have not sold eggs at the Farmers Mkt yet as our hens didn't start laying in time to participate last year. We do plan on doing so this year however. You will need an Egg License from the Indiana Egg Board to be legal. There are different prices depending on who you want to sell to. You can get a Farmers Mkt only license or a Farmers Mkt/Wholesale license in case you also want to sell to a store/ restaurant etc. That one costs $50 and is the way we went as there is a Health Food store that wants to purchase our eggs. You can find out more info here: www.ansc.purdue.edu/ISEB/

Hope this helps!

Thank you for the compliment! At this time, we keep family and neighbors well supplied with eggs. And my daughter takes excess to her work place and sells to co-workers. I am waiting for my stamps and scale to arrive so I can stamp my cartons with the necessary info the State and Feds require to be able to sell in stores, then I will be supplying a health food store with free range eggs. My goal is to make enough $$ to help pay for feed.
I would like to make it a self sufficient operation for us by keeping us in eggs and meat, (and a profitable business on the side). This is our first flock of chickens so I have certainly learned
a lot this past year, most of which came from BYC forums. SO glad they exist!!
