i started out with an order from mthealthy hatchery. 10 goldne comets, 6 columbians, 5 gold laced wyandottes, and a 5 speckled sussex. my mom ordered their heavy assortment for my birthday a couple years ago. my wife's uncle then gave us two roosters. a leghorn and an easter egger. i got rid of the leghorn he was too aggressive with my little girls (actual little girls) and crossed the easter egger over all of them. out of my resulting hatches i ended up with some very interesting looking chickens. i then to eggs from my grandpa, he has a rhode island red X white plymouth rock rooster, that crossed over his hens, which were mostly black sex links, a couple of barred rocks, and a few mutts. i took these resulting hatches, butchered all of the roosters except for one that looks exactly like a gold laced wyandotte (even though he is a cross) and my wife kept a very nice looking rooster with blue lacing (have no idea waht the easter egger crossed over to make that) and have now bread them back to my originals and the resulting hens from the previous hatches. i have to get some pictures! then you will see my menagerie!!Bloonskiller~ have you come across some good crosses? Which are your favorites?
I live in Greenville In and I have a smal flock of 15 chickens. I have 14 silkies and 1 ameracuana. I have only had chicken since May of last year. I have fallen in love with them and can't wait to get more. I am looking to add a few more ameracuanas to my flock if anyone has some for sale.
Hello,
I'm not sure if I can post this here, but I am anyway - Our 4-H Poultry Club in Bartholomew County (Columbus) has some extra chicks available from our Exhibition order. We typically order a couple hundred purebred chicks from some of the top breeders in the country for our members to show at our fair in July. They are straight run and $8 each. We currently have some Red and Silver Gray Dorkings, Partridge and Silver Peniciled Rocks, Andalusians, WC Black Polish and a few other odds and ends. These are picked up only - we are just trying to sell a few extras to other 4-H kids, not start a business! Call or email if you are interested in getting into some of these breeds.
We are also actively recruiting new members so if you live in Bartholomew County and want to become involved in 4-H, please contact me as well.
thanks,
Matt
