INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

If you want her off the nest, try putting her in a cage with a wire bottom and no bedding for a few days with no eggs (or golf balls!

). If you want to try to hatch the eggs that you have, candle them to see if they're fertile; if so, you can leave her on the nest.

Where are you located? Some of my silkies are still laying; if you're close by me or near Indy I could get some to you. My sis in Indy is supposed to be here this weekend and could take them home with her.

Sally, if you still have the silkies, I'll take the bunch. I know, just what I need--more chickens to feed with winter just starting. But I know the quality of your birds and am brooding anyhow.

pbirdhaven THANK YOU!

sorry I yelled
I tried to break her the first week just short of letting her swing, no luck. Pull her off the nest, took the golf ball, ice cubes, tried to lock her out of the layer pen, she got back in.She took the golf ball off the top row of nest boxes & put it in her chosen nest on the bottom row. She is one determined bird!
The eggs she has are from a friends production reds.I took the golf ball & gave her 3 eggs, she got the golf ball & added it back to the eggs. Sunday, she pushed 1 of the eggs out in front of her so I took it & opened it, not fertilized.I candled the 2 remaining eggs today & see no sign of development at all.

I am very hesitant to swing her with the nights being so cold. I've never kept bantams much less silkies. She has a fair covering of feathers on her head & neck but there are a lot of pins & you can still see skin shining through.

We are in Marion Cty, right at the Shelby-Johnson corner. I am willing to pay & travel to get her something. If it's better for you I would be happy to meet your sister too. Bless you for thinking of my silly, stubborn bird and good luck with your surprise hatch. I know nothing about incubators, we always broody raised our chicks.

Just let me know when you want to pick them up. email [email protected]. the 2 white ones are from the paint pen, so they could still paint. The blue and blacks could be from my BBS pen or showgirl pen, as I raised them together,(lack of space in winter) . But the splash pullet that we won Best of Breed with twice this summer came from my showgirl pen !! LOL !!

Brahmas aren't laying right now, but I'll be incubating them when ever they start. !!

He's a good roo, calls the girls to treats. My daughter named him "Mr. Peeps". Hoping he's not the genetic dumpster from the hatchery. Thanks for the encouragement cluck acres. I'll give him more time to grow up :)

My buff orp. Rooster has a sad crow. I think he just isn't old enough to get it all out. How old before he sounds like a roo than a grumbling old man? He's about 3 months old.

My GLW Roo, Red, didn't really crow till he was almost 6 months. It was a 1/2 crow, like he forgot the words...

Now he has a beautiful voice at 9 months, just love to hear him!

The heritage breeds do tend to take a bit longer from what I hear.

Thanks. I will give him time. I'm glad he may just need time, instead of condeming him so quickly. I would keep him either way though. Maybe by spring he will crow and the girls will lay. Happy little chicken family.... well.... polygamists.... I don't judge chickens.
