INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Im planning on getting more turkeys in the spring too along with meat chickens.

me too. The CX were great on FF. I let them free range, my hubby went crazy over my fried chicken. I had to let them go a week or 2 longer to reach weight. Wow the meat was great, and almost no fat on them. Hearts were small, no signs of stress. Out of 25, my only loss was one that committed suicide, drowned in a stock tank. Still haven't figured that one out, the water was only 5-6 inches deep

I still have 2 of them, both hens. One is singing the egg song so i bet she will be laying soon. I integrated them with my mature flock, and so far they are doing great.
Meaties are so easy to do, hope the BB turkeys are too. Gonna try it and see

Not sure yet. Last year a local farm store had them (Orschelns farm and home). If I can't find any breeders local, then ill try them this year. I only want a few, so ordering them just won't work with hatchery/breeder minimums.

Oh, ground turkey! I hadn't even thought of doing that. We are a family of four, so that would be a great way to save what we couldn't eat.
Its really good! We do jerky or grind any meats we have that's not a choice cut. I plan to make sausages too, and get our smokehouse built soon.

Oh we have one in Greenfield I think, close to us. I will call them too. It would be nice not to have to worry on shipping dates. I am gone a lot weekends in the summer. You might call TSC (Tractor Supply) if you have one close, I know they sell poults too, but not sure what dates.

I have a local breeder. I have 2 turkeys already one is a tom and the other is a hen. Their names is Turk and Susie. LOL They are Wild Eastern tho like the ones you hunt for around here. I would like to get another breed as well tho. I hope by the end of summer our freezers will be well stocked with turkey and chicken as well as pork and beef.

Didn't see them last year at TSC. I'll call or stop in soon and ask. I have an order coming from Meyers mid March. Working retail and having various hours, I just took a week off to receive the chicks. Just easier than trying to guess when hey will arrive and making sure I am off to pick them up. It also gives me a week to play...I mean observe them ;)
