INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Didn't see them last year at TSC. I'll call or stop in soon and ask. I have an order coming from Meyers mid March. Working retail and having various hours, I just took a week off to receive the chicks. Just easier than trying to guess when hey will arrive and making sure I am off to pick them up. It also gives me a week to play...I mean observe them

Never really looked into mt. Healthy. Ill have to take a look a their website. I have blue laced red wyandottes (interested to see how they turn out being hatchery birds) and Easter eggers coming mid march.

Check out the specials.. the 200 chick deal is really tempting! $0.25 a chick, cannot beat that!
I ran across them a few months ago. This was my first order with them, was very pleased with how the birds were packed and shipped. Sent 1 extra, I ordered 15 pullets. the babies are very lively and healthy. I plan to try Meyer next, will probably get my mini whites there, & blue slates too. I don't mind the minimum 15 order, We can sell or eat the birds we don't want. (that sounds awful lol) For the BB whites, It would be nice to just go to the farm store tho.
Spring planning.. Does anyone sell, or recommend someone that has Nigerian dwarf goats? Like to find 2 does. I may go full size milk goat too, just depends on whats out there. I have had goats several times in the past, but these are the first milk goats for me.

I agree that is a nice deal. But what kind of a set up do you have for their brooder area. I ask because I am planning to raise a large number of roosters and while I have a nice idea for the coop, I need to get them to at least 4 weeks before putting them into it.
I looked at some of the metal chick quail brooder boxes. They look really nice and would be reusable. BUT they are also rather pricey.

Ohh and if you don't care too much about breed Meyer hatchery has a nice deal on roosters once you get to 100.

A couple days ago I had asked if anyone within driving distance from me had any chicks. Wanted to post this update here...thanks to everyone who responded!

To recap... I only had 1 egg hatch from the 7 I set with my broody. Was trying to find some close to same hatch date that I could add under her to see if she'd accept them to raise as hatch mates. I would have taken a variety of different breeds if they were available at the right time.

Interestingly, someone recommended crazypetlady who is just south of Ft. Wayne. She's about 2.5 hours south of me. She is one of the folks that runs the contests here on BYC...not sure if she's part of this thread since I'm new to the thread and haven't had a lot of time to explore.

She had a hatch the same day and the day after mine - WITH EGGS FROM THE SAME SOURCE - and within driving distance. That's pretty amazing....so these kiddos are likely from the same source although she also had some from 1 other source so some may be his as well.

These are all Swedish Flower Hens w/a hatchery RIR broody.

Here's the baby we hatched (the yellow one):

Had a good bit of discussion regarding whether mom would accept the new kiddos. I placed them under her after dark on New Year's Eve. I was surprised at how quickly the babies just settled down. I thought they'd be a little freaked out by the dark since they've only known a heat lamp since their hatch but there seemed to be no anxiety for them at all.

Then...I got up before dawn to go out and watch how mom would react. Plan was to remove them from her and brood them w/a light if she looked like she wasn't going to accept them. I sat out there WAY TO LONG in the cold for my liking... How do chickens keep those skinny little feet warm anyway?

When they first came out she acted like they'd been there all along!

Here is right after they came out. The little yellow one that's away from the crowd is the one we hatched. The three w/mom are the new kids. Mom is showing them how to find food:

After they'd been out a minute or two it was time to call them in to warm up. She hunkered down in this corner all day long with the kids coming out from time to time then going back to keep warm.

I had put some food there in front of her later in the day and she called them out for some lunch. It's amazing to watch her communicating with them. There's "Come and Get It" call; "Get under here quick" call; At one point you could hear crows cawwing outside and she said something that made them go totally silent; and others as well... Very cool to see and hear all this!

You can see it but.... THERE'S A PARTY GOING ON UNDER THERE!

You can see a few more photos here:

A couple more: This is "little gray"...every time food is announced this baby is right on it! I had put out a "mom size" piece of liver for mom and this kiddo took it and was trying valiantly to eat it!

And see the spectators behind there?? :)

(Yes this mom is brooding here in Indiana in the current temperatures.)

Thanks again to y'all that responded to try to help me find some!!!!
