INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Hi everyone! I just listed some hatching eggs - would anyone close to me like to buy them for $10? There are 15 total. There are 2 bantam eggs (possible Mille fluer d'Uccle, pure OEGB, or OEGB/BCMarans mix), 2 pure Black Copper Marans, a few Orpington/BC Marans mixes, and the rest are various mixes from our flock.

I always keep some back as insurance when we go out of town. Fortunately, I don't need them because all is well!

Thanks. I will give him time. I'm glad he may just need time, instead of condeming him so quickly. I would keep him either way though. Maybe by spring he will crow and the girls will lay. Happy little chicken family.... well.... polygamists.... I don't judge chickens.

they are something aren't they? I was so ready to give up on Red. He didn't seem interested in the girls either. Now, he won't leave them be, and even goes after the guinea hens! he tried being frisky with one of the geese, and Big G (my gander) put a stop to that real quick

He has really matured a lot, but it was like 6 months for all the wyandottes. Like someone flipped a switch! Girls were suddenly squatting and laying, Red started crowing and mating. Bet that's what yours do too, mine were hatched 4/22/12.

I contacted the state in regards to getting NPIP certified. Pretty exciting stuff, I want to start offering some different breeds of turkey locally too. The mini-whites are really appealing.. and the blue slate. There is just no one around here doing it.

I thought about getting a couple turkeys in the spring also. They are entertaining. How are they with food to cost ratio if I have them slaughtered for thanksgiving?
Jchny2000~ poor Red when he found out the goose belonged to a giant crazy Gander!

Ya he was running away and squawking! Big G is a ferocious huge Embden! Its odd, he chose my african goose, WeeWee as his mate.. She is my favorite out of all my birds, and a dollbaby. She will actually still crawl into my lap and snuggle, if i am sitting on the ground (landscaping or working on fences)
Not sure on the feed to meat conversion yet.. Anyone else? I would love to know also, but healthy and home raised is my big goal too.
Its really been a good feeling knowing I am providing healthy choices for my family.

no i have to order.. I hope to order in February. I know most wont ship until march. Where did you order from?

We ordered from Murray McMurray. We'll also probably get around 5 of the broad breasted meat turkeys from our local feed store to raise with them, too. I've got some Griswold turkey plans.

Hehehehe! Good idea, I want to get maybe 15 of the BBW's, they get HUGE! We always have a houseful. I wonder if my TSC will have poults? I will call them tomorrow and ask. I would love to have turkey more than 2x a year. We were just talking about that too, why don't we fix turkey more often? I use brining and a cooking bag, they don't take long to do. We have smoked, and deep fried. Yummm, love it!

Sounds good! Yum!

Sometimes we use ground turkey in place of beef. One of our plans is to grind up some of those big BBW's and have our own ground turkey.
