My four dogs were not brought up with chickens and go into "pack mentality" that will not end well no matter how trainable a couple of them are (the cattle dog/lab mix is 100% untrainable). The cardboard is a good idea, but I'll have to bite the bullet and build the raised bed to do that. I thought about putting tarps down and piling weight on them, i feel like the weight and lack of any sun kills grass pretty quick. Maybe I'll try that and if it doesn't work i can get materials and try the cardboard with the raised beds. It stinks! I was hoping to have my bee hives built this winter but my truck got snowed in the first week in January and has yet to be uncovered fully (really big drifts here). To be honest I probably would have wussed out with this cold anyway since my garage is not insulated.
