INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Ok so got the bator cleaned out..and shipped eggs set. Got 28 Blue and Black Copper Marans from fellow BYCers and one threw in 2 Olive Egger eggs! Yea! Then I set some more of my own..so..whatever space was left..think it was another dozen. I have to say I was happy to see my girls deff lay on the large side and dark side of fellow breeders. However my eggs are much more round. Which leads me to my issues I just had with this hatch. I had them air cell down! Needless to say I will be candling every one this time as mine are sooo hard to tell!

Speaking of which. . I had been sitting back some for this hatch which I started gathering 3/16 if anyone here is interested I gathered too many just incase something happened and didn't end up setting all of the shipped ones.

I also bought a digital scale and one of the largest eggs weighed in at 89 grams!! I also had others in the low 80's but I would say they average 74g! Just for scale I also weighed my bantam Cochin egg..37g lol and AM egg at 60g
Any takers? If not they will go in the fridge by Sat.
I hate to do it but..ya know..
Awesome news! We will be waiting for candling and PIPS!

Hi, hope someone can help you!

Quote: The huge temp jumps with our weather is a real killer, hard to keep brooders even with it going on. Are they outdoors in a brooder?
Try fermenting the chick feed. What are you feeding? ACV in the water also or electrolyte/save a chick, Sound like a deficiency going on.also.
Medicated feed can't be fermented.
Quote: LOL I know that feeling! I headcount a lot more in the winter, and panic if one is missing!
So glad everything was ok, and look, you got some exercize too!

Feeling a bit growly over an aggressive hen! She hisses and makes noises VERY similar to what I imagine came from a small dinosaur back in the day. I get pecked regularly by her! I've bumped her, pinned her, and thrown treats just to get her out of the path. I've NEVER backed down when she acts aggressive!! Driving. Me. Crazy!
Pick her up and carry her around like your "favorite hen" a few days.I get the feet in one hand, press wings between my arm and body.
Few times a day a few minutes oughta do it. Just as often as you can. My EE Bunny was just nasty, timid, flighty and would bite.
After she learned I wasn't going to hurt her, and she wasn't going to win she settled down. She will come for treats now, just like the other girls.

Here's "Lucky" (lucky #13 = 13th to hatch) from a RSL hen & either our EE roo or our IowaBlue roo :
Gorgeous lil baby!

Still not caught up but going to bed

WELCOME!
Our thread is not just about chickens, but a group of members that enjoy each others company.
We offer support and help each other learn about our birds, events, food co-ops. swapping and trading.
Hatching, new breeds, life events, kids graduation, our livestock, and anything that matters to us all.
You don't have to be in Indiana to join up. We have members in a few other states as well. FYI, I was born in MI.
Our only rule is please respect BYC guidelines regarding chat, we do have children/young adult members here.

Thats what got me started too, both times. Mine are gone now, but my birds make me think of my grandparents, and my parents too.
Just part of what life should be. My parents live with us now, but they are really enjoying our animals.

I have been good but busy with the farm. 6 of the 9 does have kidded and in a few weeks our Shetland sheep will start lambing. All of my birds are laying especially the ducks. If anyone is looking for Cayuga hatching eggs let me know. Mine are laying great.

I am looking for a few birds. My son starts 4-H next year. He is wanting to show Golden SeBrights. I am looking to buy a pair or tro. I am also looking for. Lilac Tom turkey for new blood in my flock. I am also looking for SQ Cayuga hatching eggs, ducklings, or adults.

I am glad to be back on here. I miss talking with everyone.

Are you picking ducks to order, or getting them at a local breeder/store? I am seeing them everywhere!
I just locked down our first 2 pekin ducklings, one is already pipped internally at day 26!
Sound exciting!

We are researching (poultry educated) kid friendly breeds first. Then we'll decided if we REALLY want to go the extra duck mile! Any info would be great!
Quotes are not working right for me today!!

Well my EE that was suspected with meraks, got her lab work back, and nothing seems out of the ordinary the vet said, so we.both are not sure what's going on with her, she is submitting her case to Purdue and hoping for a reply, she is attempting to stand, but still can't yet, and from what I'm researching in my own I can't find anything similar to what she is displaying. :(
