hear that! I have my new chicks in my den, peepings are so loud!

Quote: Yes, the family fosters children. We have been here about 10 years ourselves, my parents a little longer.
Its been rewarding to see the children grow and learn that someone really cares about them.
They have been very cordial neighbors, there are few people on our road.
They are just really good people, and involved in our little community and school activities.
We invite them to visit the new livestock (babies) and we are very friendly with the family.

Ok a bit heavy on pics. Just got around to taking some of my recent hatch. My aunt bought 3 so I didn't get pics of those.

First is my GCM..because she was bread to my BCM roo the chick is only carrying one barring gene therefore from what I've read if I understand correctly this should be a boy due to the dark coloring and spot on the head. I'm fine with that. Good news is my GCM hen doesn't have feathered shanks and chick does! Very excited about that!

BCM (3)

Surprised me but this little "guy" is from a pullet egg of a girl I hatched out back in August of 2013. She was a SLW/BCM that lays a beautiful dark egg. Her chick is mixed with a black AM. Fingers crossed it's a girl!

Not the egg she hatched from but mothers first egg. It's the smaller of the two here.

AM/BCM

Just a couple of the Silkies bought from Btown RK. One of the 9 died Thursday. The one that passed the RK employee had put it back in the bin with two others when I said I would take them all. So I asked why he put them back and he said because of their bottoms. .I just told him I would take them anyway. I got them cleaned up but the one didn't make it. I would just rather take them home and give them a chance than to leave the lone 3.
Most of them are the yellow/buff color fluff. There are a few that are the grayish white fluff. All adorable of course!

Few funny sleeping pics! Lol

The Silkies have the black on their eyelids and it makes them look like they're sleeping with their eyes open. .kinda creepy! !
Oh my, they are alll just too precious

I was asked today about how I package eggs for shipping. So if anyone ever gets eggs from me, this is how I do it for the most part. They got a little extra padding this time since they are going to Oklahoma tomorrow.
I go a bit nutz with the sharpie.

They better get there in one piece!
Fantastic post!

or just show off that huge egg you just found!
Our only rule is to keep chat family clean within BYC guidelines.
We talk about our new puppies, kids graduation and more. If it matters to you, share it if you want to!
Wanted to thank racinchickins for being a gracious host today. We had so many questions!
He has an excellent new setup for his coops, we are copying a lot of his plans for our breeding pens.
I seem to bring the cold air to his place, we were freezing!
But enjoyed our visit a lot, seems like I get a ton of ideas each time we meet.

Help! I found a chicken, and don't know how to find the owner. I've got the chicken in my house in a temporary pen. Anyone missing a chicken in the Bloomington area? The chicken had/has some frostbite, and has been eating seeds and corn. I lined the pen with timothy hay... I have no idea what I'm doing, but I'm trying to help the little bugger out!
I will forward your post to the active thread! Thank you so much!

So cute! I miss the dead sleepy phase!

Sorry to hear you are not feeling well.  I'm also sad to hear that the ducks were not the runners we ordered.  When you get feeling better, and up to taking pictures, I'll see if I can get the hatchery to identify the breed of duck.  If nothing else perhaps I can get a refund to give you for the duckling price.

I feel like I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place! They look like Cayugas, which is what I originally wanted, but I had really gotten attached to the idea of Runners. So, after raising them and going though the whole brooding process... Ugh, I really don't want to do that again! Lol! I'll need to find a broody hen...

Thanks for all the well wishes. I'm still in bed, waiting out the crowing rooster before I decide to start moving around.

I had another girl decide to go broody. The first one was a black australorp. Her babies are 2 1/2 weeks old now. This is one of my buff orpingtons. We put 10 eggs under her yesterday. Just for a minute I was excited as I remembered the Easter hatchalong & thought she could be part of it. Then I realized she'll hatch her chicks on Palm Sunday instead.

There was quite a variety of egg colors so I'm hoping I got at least one of each of my breeds in the clutch. Definitely one blue easter egger! Of course, these will all be cross breeds, except for any orpington eggs, and then it will be crossed colors. Of the 3 chicks in my first hatch that were buff colored, 2 of them have been getting dark color on the wings. Wondering if at least one of them is an EE/orp baby. I could have 2 EE/orps, as I'm not sure what color egg my other EE is laying -- it matches a number of my other eggs I collect, apparently. I need to take pics of the chicks when it warms up again. Maybe the experts on here will be able to tell me if I have any little roos before I need to put in a pullet chick order.

That's awesome. Me and my wife are really big into adoption. Her brothers were adopted and our first child is adopted. He just turned one back in February. We are about to be a foster family in April. We decided awhile ago that we would never say no to a child that needs a loving home.
