That IS a bummer.

I've been trying to figure out what I want to plant at the front of this property which is a state highway that they have now added sidewalks to :tongue   Definitely not the same as it used to be in the old days...and I'd like to feel a little more "isolated".  It just seems like by the time it grows I'll be dead and gone!

Have been considering some tall grasses.  That way it doesn't put out any stumps to rid the place of in the future if someone doesn't want them there.  But I can leave them up all winter and they'll recover relatively quickly after they're cut down in the spring.

Anyone have any experience with the tall grasses as a privacy fence?

There is the option of bamboo. There is a bamboo farm in southern Indiana. It's something to consider. It's fast growing in comparison to a tree and they offer some diversity for repurposing! Plenty of types that do really well here.

Do you happen to know what the grams convert to in terms of egg size (small, medium, large, etc? I have been making any eggs I don't sell into hard boiled too as they are perfect for snack size!

This is what I found. Not sure on it's accuracy but here it is.

US egg sizes

Egg sizes Average weight
Jumbo 2 1/2 oz (71g)

Extra-large 2 1/4 oz (64g)

Large 2 oz (57g)

Medium 1 3/4 oz (50g)

Small 1 1/2 oz (43g)
Peewee 1 1/4 oz (35g)

Here's another good site that shows the US egg sizes by weight.

toodlesmom-Thanks for the heads up about the play sand! I checked what I got and its not that sifty white stuff, its red gritty sand and it says best for building...I bought that fine stuff all last year though, I wish I'd known about possible respiratory problems then!

PeacefulWalls- do you hard boil your quail eggs? Thats an idea! I hadn't even thought to try that with my bantam eggs! We've been missing out! I usually scramble them for our ferret. They're so small it just never occured to me to use them for us! :p
That's awesome you've got a chicken cat too! I'd love to see a pic of the cat on the alpaca, how cute!
Good luck with your picks! :)

Fantastic idea! Can't wait to see how it turns out! :)

Thanks, it's going to be a pretty solid building when it's done. Here is another pic of the sidewalls and where the people door will be.

I'm just glad to be able to work outside a little even though 29/30 degrees wasn't the best lol

Well, I lost one of the new cochin bantams overnite, bless it's little heart. Not sure why, they had pasty butt BAD when I got them but I don't know if that had a part in it or not. Poor thing. The other one is bright eyed and bushytailed. I called the store and they said they'd replace it so I ended up with one plus I bought one more (I didn't want the one to be lonely on the way home...) Now I'm wondering what color these will be. CCCCCCCCCHICKENS mentioned black and blue for the two yesterday and I'm going to guess it was the blue that passed since it was the lighter one. Does it look like 3 blacks now? Could the lightest one be mottled maybe? All three have a couple little white feathers on their wings but my black jersey giant chicks started out like that... Also, while I'm rambling on, when will I be able to tell who's who and what should I look for? Should I just watch their combs? Okay, here they are:
