INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Happy Friday everyone!

Made my first chicken roast from our own chickens, if only the veggies could have been from our yard instead of Kroger's, then it would have been perfect. :)

Maybe it is time to start thinking about moving with all those restrictions! You had such plans to breed and it is a shame to totally give up on that idea.

Yeah I'd really like to move. But I'd have to sell my house for what it's worth so that I'd have enough money to put down on a house with some property. I'd also need to do some work...get the floors replaced at least in a couple of rooms, and repaint the house (I painted it very colorfully). It really stinks cause I just put a lot of time and money into the outside of this house this year.

I did find someone who would keep my roos for me for breeding. Then I could keep my 2 sets of hens for breeding and then maybe 4 additional pullets for eggs. Maybe my mom or a neighbor will keep the rest of the girls. I'm so upset. And why the arbitrary number of 6??

Politics are part of the thread already maybe not every topic in politics but it government is brought up here quite a bit. After all it is politics and government that are stating who can have chickens and who can't in many cases. In some cases it is a homeowners group that governs the neighborhood.

And as long as it is family friendly I don't see the harm. After all this is a very diverse group. We have chicken pet owners, those who use their chickens as a part of being homesteaders, chicken breeders, owners wanting only eggs but not pet chickens, owners wanting eggs and meat but still not a large flock,...
And I have even seen a few posts in the thread stating positive info towards birds of prey. I am to the point of having a very very strong dislike of all birds of prey.

There are several other ways to say our thread is diverse too. We vary in location somewhat. Southern IN sure does not expect to get lake effect snow. We vary in age too, from the old (old Salt even put old in his screen name) to the young (I'm sure we have encouraged a few to get their HS diplomas). There are so many ways to say we are diverse; religion, food we feed our family, food we feed our chickens, entertainment likes,... Politics is only one of many dividers.

We are quite a diverse group. So sure we will have varying opinions on things like politics and childcare. But as long as it is family friendly and not against BYC rules, it is OK here.

Of course if I put up a privacy fence then I could probably have ALL my hens back and just keep the roosters at a friend's house...hmmmmmmmm.

I was able to finance my privacy fence at lowes (or home depot), they usually run a bit high on price but they WILL price match so you can get some quotes from other companies and bring the quote in for the cheaper price match and interest free financing! I would probably try not to go too crazy on chicken numbers just in case your neighbor continues to make complaints (just to be a PITA).

I agree, I don't see the harm as long as people are respectful and not bashing us in the head with their opinions.

The number had to be picked by a non-egg eater like my SIL. She told us she can't see why anyone would need to buy 2 dozen eggs at once.

Somewhere on here there is a posting from way back when of the government recommending every household have chickens. It said so many per person in the family. I think it was 2-3. I'll see if I can find it. It had the traditional Uncle Sam on it.

It is printable if you follow the link. I just did not want to paste a giant screen filler picture here.
