Thanks, everyone. I'll get those eggs out from under her. I'm sad that none of them hatched, but I went into this knowing that I didn't have much of a chance at it. I have two other broodies in the broody buster, so I think I'll let Margie sit overnight and then move her out to the buster in the morning. I was really only letting her sit with the hopes that she would hatch some of Po's offspring, and definitely not because I need more chicks.

Well, I removed the eggs. Margie is so upset. She's wandering around, clucking like she's trying to call her eggs back. I feel bad, but I don't want to risk an 'eggsplosion'.

I performed an eggtopsy (sorry for all the egg puns, but that's a term I've seen on here before!). None of them popped, thankfully. Of the 9 eggs, 3 were greenish and rotten, and another was kind of grayish and rotten. 2 more looked almost scrambled, like the yolk had mixed in with the white somehow? They were not shipped eggs and were never shaken, so I'm not sure how that happened. Not a single egg was fertile.

So I guess this means that Po is officially and totally gone. I will miss him and I so regret that I made the mistake that cost him his life.

Awww I'm so sorry. It sucks when we make a mistake and animals suffer, but we are only human and mistakes happen. It is unfortunately unavoidable in life

I'm sure brad can hook you up with another bantam cochin roo when you are ready! His are beautiful! Cochins really make the best roosters!!

So, anyone want an Easter Egger cockerel? I don't know if he's technically a rooster yet. I think he's about 4 to 6 mo. old, roughly. He hasn't been heard to crow, nor been seen doing any rooser-ish things to the hens.



I thought I'd give the community the opportunity to give him a long life making more chickens, in case anyone wants him. If not, I'm sure he'll make a nice stew. A small stew, you know, but a nice one.

Does anyone want a lavender male guinea? He's our only remaining guinea and he's worn out my patience. I just got the sweetest birds from Brad and he is beating up the cochin without mercy. He hasn't actually hurt her yet, but I'm worried it's just a matter of time. I actually locked him out of the coop last night I was so mad. He's meaner than dirt and he needs to go. Perhaps he'd do better with other guineas to keep him in line?

I can't even imagine what my life would be like if I married a chicken (or dog or horse) enabler. The only thing stopping me right now is my single income and my single pair of arms doing all the work! I'd be dangerous with a dangerous enabler man in my life!!! I need to find me a grouch to keep me in check!
