INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

it is possible that the chick pipped into a vein and bled out. It happens, nothing you did if it was a vein pip.

My question for the night:
How long do I need to feed the turkey poults the higher protein turkey food? Or in other words, how soon can I put my turkeys in with my chickens if ever?
Kab, just wait it out and see. Chicks will rest a lot before pips.

Sally, can they see each other now? There is some risk, but I do keep and raise them together. Blackhead isn't real common, in my county. You can call the county extension and ask if it is where you are at. My turkey hens are typically more aggressive to chicken roosters and will not tolerate them much! Poults are slower to mature. An outgoing chicken breed ,may actually intimidate them. You could do a trial run, and monitor how they act. I just added 4 poults to my egg coop tonight, and it went pretty well.

Funny story I had to tell. I had this add on craigslist a few weeks ago and had some younger laying hens for sale. And I said I was asking $6. I had like 12 chickens listed. And someone wanted to know if I meant each or for all. I assumed it was self explanatory. Not going to sell a perfectly go laying hen for 50 cents lol.
WOW not kidding!

Bad news!!!!!! My Seabright King Aurther passed away at 6:14 pm last night in my hand while his mate was sitting on my knee singing to him.
I'm so going to miss the little guy, he was my buddy. He used to call to me when ever he heard the back door open. He actually wanted to be picked up and loved.
I'm really worried about Marion now she wont stop calling for him and she hasn't eaten since he passed. Will they grieve themselves to death??? I don't have anything even close to her sz to put in with her for a new buddy. I moved her into the house so I can baby her, and she has spent most the night on me, but she will not eat. this morning she still hasn't eaten and her craw is empty.

Does anyone have a seabright they would be willing to part with asap. would be willing to pay as long as I don't have to put my house in hock.... If your close enough I would like to come get it today, or asap.
Thanks for the help and well wishes for him to everyone. Now I just have to work on keeping her alive.

It always amazes me when I post on Craigslist the replies I get. I don't know how many times I get emails asking me if I have X available even though I didn't list it in the ad. One of the best ones was someone wanting a bunch of hens for free. I explained that I don't have any laying hens available (again not posted on my list) as well as just like they can't afford to buy them, I can't afford to give them away. I have a lot of beaks to feed and they have to pay for their own feed. She wasn't too happy lol.

@chick rookie
So sorry. And your little girl seems like such a good mate. I hope you find someone for her.
lilmizscareall has a Seabright Roo we are going to get this afternoon.
ya.gif
She will have to deal with me being gone a few hours, but I think it will be better for her to have someone of her own kind, instead of me. She wont let me leave the room with out her. have you ever tried to go to the restroom with a Seabright on your shoulder, chirping in your ear and trying to nest in your hair?? lol

so glad you found her a companion!

Day 22 for this little cochin egg under broody Lavender. What do you all think? No movement and the vessels look clear, not red anymore. No internal pip. The second picture shows the spot that looked like blood.

I have kept my turkeys on meatbird rations. I had mine mixed with the chickens when young, but had to separate them when they got older. They beat up some of my chickens pretty badly.

We started our chickens and turkeys on all flock at 3 or 4 months. And they are all still together from last spring. Our tom is sweet to everybody. But our hen let's nothing get in her way of food:) and has taken some pretty nasty shots at the chickens when they get to close to her food. But I have never had a predator problem either.
