INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

WOW not kidding!

And they were serious

It always amazes me when I post on Craigslist the replies I get. I don't know how many times I get emails asking me if I have X available even though I didn't list it in the ad. One of the best ones was someone wanting a bunch of hens for free. I explained that I don't have any laying hens available (again not posted on my list) as well as just like they can't afford to buy them, I can't afford to give them away. I have a lot of beaks to feed and they have to pay for their own feed. She wasn't too happy lol.

I have got some pretty db replies, but thy has to be the top one. I saw on one of your ads you said you only have what is listed. I list chicks and have people ask if I have any rooster for free. No I have chicks. Plus I would rather just pay the $2.50 to have him butchered and eat him instead f giving him away

Be careful giving your roos away. People still do cock fighting.

One day I had a crew of guys working on the property here. "Mister" was in solitary in the garage in a pen and they saw him. One of them asked me what I was going to do w/him...was he for fighting? I told him he was just waiting to get put back out w/the others.

The guy then proceeded to tell me that "his people" still do cock fights every weekend. (I won't mention the nationality.) When he saw the caged roo he just assumed that was what he was for.

He was serious and it was a serious conversation.

I agree. I don't give mine away. There is a place thy fights roosters over by Marion. They are a ton of blue barrels and a rooster at every barrel with bailer twine tied to their legs like leashes. Did you call te cops? I can't believe just willingly admitted that, good way to get caught and in trouble

Since I have no idea where they do the fighting, I really had nothing to report.

I think that it just "came out" because he saw the roo in the pen in the garage and that was what he thought I was doing which probably gave him the boldness to mention it.  I was surprised too.

I didn't realize you didn't know where they were at. Him telling you that would of been an extremely dumb move on his part

Funny story I had to tell. I had this add on craigslist a few weeks ago and had some younger laying hens for sale. And I said I was asking $6. I had like 12 chickens listed. And someone wanted to know if I meant each or for all. I assumed it was self explanatory. Not going to sell a perfectly go laying hen for 50 cents lol.

I am thinking - Whoa! $6 for a laying hen is a REALLY good price. $6 for all? Are you kidding???

I only advertise my roos on this thread or another breed specific thread. I only sell in pairs, and if It's an outside sale, I find out a lot of info about the buyer and charge more than what one would pay to use a roo in a bad way. I don't have big boys very often, most of mine are silkies and are used as pets or breeders. I will have a large black cochin roo available in the next few months, so I will be very careful who gets him. I have two and I'm only keeping one.

I thought it was a good price. They were a "rescue project". Bad home, underweight. I just wanted to get them out of there in on their way to a better home after they started to gain weight again. I haven't had them very long. And they are still under where they should be in weight, but I said all that in the post. In no time they would be back in there prime. They look SO much better than the day I got them and have come a long way in a short period of time. They are even laying again and they are only aroun 1 - 11/2. I had never planned on keeping any of them, but there are a few I am keeping.
Me too. I literally walk away from people after they are done telling me that (just to see if they give away too much info). And I go off on people that ask if I fight my roosters. Why in my right mind would I?
