INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

We did pretty good at the wolfs animal swap meet this morning! Pics to come. A couple beautiful Bantam Cochins, a Plymouth barred rock pullet, and 3 JG pullets. I didn't think it was to bad of swap meet this time.

Our culled to the layer flock CCL rooster passed last night.  He had been in the free ranging flock for a few weeks now.  I think he got into the goat feed on Wed.  I'm almost sure that is what did him in.  He had been too calm since then, he just was not himself.  At least now I know chickens can't eat goat feed and goat's can't eat chicken feed.

Goats can eat chicken feed. Not only have they gotten in it when try weren't suppose to, but if we run out we will give them a touch of chicken feed so they don't get too hungry. They can also eat rabbit feed. They got into that too. I don't know of anything they can't eat. Mine have ate so many things it isn't funny. Plus sometimes the chickens would go scratch around in te goat feed and they were fine. They aren't together anymore though

I personally have nothing bad to say about the BA's they are great, friendly, good with my grand kids and mine was a great mom ( even tho she only hatched 2 lol ) I have always had BO's until this year and only had 1 bad hen, she was just flat mean!! To people, other chickens and the dogs.  As far as RIR's not a bad word about the hens, don't like the Roo's, I had 3 and all three were mean to the girls. ( not at the same time ) All 3 breeds were great layers and they even laid in the winter.

I see you found  @M2H... lol She is great.

I just got 3 SLW's this year so don't know much about them yet, what I can tell ya is although they aren't The " come pet me type " they are not mean in anyway to anything, they are very pretty, Mine tend to stay with themselves, even though they were raised with 20 others. At night they are not the lowest on the rost but not the highest either.  Mine started laying at 19 weeks ( had to look that up, I keep records ) They will come when called only f they see the feed bucket, lol kinda independent.... great free rangers, and really good giving warnings. Thats all I got for right now, hope this helped ya out some.

Bad eggs in every breed I think.

we play the egg toss too and we always lose to our 23 year old son... lol

If you do get chicks and adult birds, Keep them apart till they are bout the same sz, after that it only took mine about a week of learning who was who and now they all know their place and get along just fine. I also agree that ISA's are great egg layers, this is my first year for them, they started laying first and have not stopped since, good sz egg too.

Congrats!! So verry cute. :love

:frow :welcome

Congrats !!! :clap  Waiting with ya ... :pop

Pretty :D

Looks like everyone is having a good time esp, the kids ( chickens )

Congrats on the new coop, I think KFC would be great.... lol

Thanks. I know I should wait a few days to make any dissensions till I chill out a bit but I just don't know, People may think wrong of me but I seem to get MORE attached to the littles then the LF????  Don't know why, just do. Not saying I don't love all my girls big and small.

I don't have the breeds anymore, because they aren't my favorites. But I don't care about eggs since I don't eat them so my chicken breed pool is so much bigger

bummer! I was looking forward to another blue egg layer. Guess he will go in the freezer with the rest.
I'll be selling 1 or 2 legbars pullets / fresh hens come Nov. I have 6 right now but only want 4 going into winter. They would be the culls from my breeder program so I would not recommend trying to breed to standard with them. But I'm sure they could create some wonderful hybrids.

I was there too! I bought 5 polish blue and splash. And 3 rabbits! Why I do not know, other than they are so darn cute:)
I guess I'm the only responsible one on the forum and didn't buy a single thing! I was half tempted on the blue laced red bantam Cornish as well as several silkies (a beautiful young partridge silkie) and Cochins. There were also some very nice bantam barred rocks that sold pretty quick. Overall I was pleased with the show as well. Couldn't have asked for better weather! Ohh and the modern game bantams were tempting as well.

Here is one of the Cochins the other two are a pair of splash bantams.

I seen those modern games and thought of yours. I know I was doing well at first...then I caved.

I had a great first experience at Wolf's!
I came home with 2 WCB Polish hens, 1 WCB Polish rooster, 2 little silkies, and 1 showgirl hen.

Let me know when you're ready to sell them. :)

Those of you getting back from the swap, don't forget your biosecurity!

- Change out of the clothes you wore to the swap and put on clean clothes! Also, don't wear the shoes you wore at the swap around your birds until you've washed them!

- Wash any tools, cages, or other objects that you've brought home before taking them out to the same area as your birds!

- Quarantine all new birds for a minimum of 3 weeks, regardless of species! Put one bird from your flock in quarantine as well for at least one of those three weeks! I can post further details about quarantine if anyone needs them. :)

The pictures posted look like healthy birds, but it's best just to be safe and quarantine anyway! Best of luck! :)
