I am having the same problem.... too many Roos and I cant get rid of them. and I only want 5.00 eh. No one wants pets I guess. Hope you have better luck than I am. where do you find waters that you fill from the top? What are they called? I have not seen any like that. I use a 40 wt yellow light, in a hanging socket thingy, hung at the very top of my coop. It is also set on a timer to shut off at 8 pm and on at 6am. I have wondered about that too. just scared to try it. I have looked all over and can not find ACV. ??? DH does that all the time.. lol that shop light thing it a good Ideal, think I will try that this year. thanks for the ideal. very cute... and too funny about the specious change.... lol when is it supposed to cool off? I keep seeing that people are getting fans put in the coops for the chickens, didnt know you could do that, would that cause respiratory issues? Just asking cause I don't know.
I like the timer idea! I ordered my gallon of ACV from amazon. I'm a prime member so shipping is free.

I might have to look into making smaller coops for the boys.... will they need to be seperated from each other?? Will they fight?

I don't plan to order from hatcheries anymore, I originally did it to start my homestead - but now that I been looking around, I want to try and get different kind of chicks... I already have my wish list:

If anyone has any of these for sale, please keep me in mind :)

I always have buff Brahmas on hand and I don't see them on your list but Im breeding Blue Black and splash Orpingtons this year. when your ready just let me know,

That would be awesome!!! :)
Any guesses on these two LF Cochin chicks, they are around 9 weeks old. I think they are both cockerels :(.

Shadow def a boy. Rocky is questionable. Looks pullety to me, just a bit red in the face. Do you have full body pics? I could tell you more with those. Look for pins in front of their tails. Pretty sure give away of male saddle feathers coming in.

I will have to take another pic tomarrow. Rocky has been red in the face longer then shadow but the comb growth never really grew fast like shadow's.

I could be mistaken or Ideal Poultry could have changed their website, but when we ordered our last 10 girls from them last November (yes, we were idiots to get chicks that late), we just got 10 pullets, plus a little extra block of compressed straw to take up extra space in the box and keep them warm. We did have to pay a nominal fee, like $1.49, to insure the chicks. They shipped just as we got a cold spell, but they actually arrived overnight and were held for us as the post office, all in great shape. I thought there was a checkbox on their webpage to refuse the cockerels and elect insurance when one checks out, but it is possible they have changed that online. I do not recall having to phone them. Anyway, once it's done, it's done. I'm sorry you have all those boys to deal with, @LKShepherd .

@Rhandi74 Your top bird is a cockerel, and I think the bottom one is a pullet. If they were Orps, that's what they would likely be. Some breeds I don't even guess because their combs are so different in shape/development than Orps, but since your two are the same age, I think it's a safe bet that the top photo is a cockerel and the black one on the bottom is a pullet. There does not appear to be nearly as much comb or wattle development on the black chick (though the black chick does have fairly good sized wattles). I also look at leg size/thickness and stature. Orps are slower than some other breeds for males to get pointed feathers on their necks and just in front of the tail. That's more of a 12 week wait for Orps. Some breeds that show ANY wattles at this age are guaranteed roos, but not Orps. I have some Orp hens with combs as big as roos and pretty big wattles, too.

I will be interested to see what the other Cochin folks say. I enjoy learning about these breed differences. Fortunately, the one time I ever asked on line (usually FB) what I had, everybody said all males, and it turned out to be 3M and 2F. That's not awesome, but it's much better than 5M!

Walmart stores stock the Heinz brand of ACV if they aren't out of it. If they are bring it to th attention of the Grocery mgr if he knows is something that you use and will sell he's more likely to order it.
