Aww they are cute!

Sad news--we have confirmed that we have 2 roos and they need to go to new homes. :hit They are both 5 months old. Would prefer they do not go into the stew pot. Dali is a very large white silkie. He is as big as our Delaware hen. I had no idea silkies were this size, I thought they were smaller. Virtually featherless legs. I chose the chick with featherless legs purposely to do best in the snow. He's very sweet, and I have not heard him crow. I saw him 'hitch a ride' on the back of our Marans hen--I'm sure he's a roo, even though he's not crowing. He's a gentleman, and calls the girls over for every little thing of interest he finds in the run. Here's Cher. He's a Frizzled Sizzle. Blue Partridge color I think, could be blue with red leakage. He's on the small size. This weekend he 'hitched a ride' on the back of our Cream Legbar hen and she kept walking like she didn't know he was there. Our Cream Legbars are little birds, and he is about the size of a legbar. I'm asking $15 for him. PM please if interested. They do not have to go to the same home. :hit
I love Cher! So pretty.

I keep seeing that people are getting fans put in the coops for the chickens, didnt know you could do that, would that cause respiratory issues? Just asking cause I don't know.
Last year I invested in a shop fan to use out in the chicken shed. The shop fans have motors that are built to handle the dust you'd have in a garage or workshop.

Mine is similar to this...they have more expensive, of course.

ETA: So the last several times I've tried to put in a link from Lowes they don't work and just go to a general page. So here is the info instead:

I usually have it blowing at floor level during the day and then angled up toward the ceiling at night. However, the last 2 nights it has been so hot that I put in 2 small saw horses and a board for it to sit on and aimed it pretty much right at them.

My chicken shed is in direct sunlight in the hottest part of the day so even if it's cool at night I turn it on in the morning before I leave.

@chick rookie I find my ACV at Kroger in the health foods section. They sell the Braggs brand. I have also heard that Walmart carries it with the mother as well in a different brand (Heinz maybe?)
Been to both those places looking for it and if I ask about it they look at me like I'm nuts... will go back again and see if I can find someone that dont think I'm crazy... thanks

Unpasturized Raw Apple Cider Vinegar with the "mother"...
You can usually find Braggs brand at "health food" type stores.

I've seen it in Krogers.

Braggs is organic.

I also understand that Heinz has a raw apple cider vinegar with the mother. Many Walmarts sell it. But be careful that it states raw with the mother. This is not organic.

If you get hold of some Braggs, you can use a small amount of it as a starter to make more.

At our Farmer's market there is guy that sells raw apple cider. He freezes it and offers it all winter long. When he has some go to vinegar he will sell it for vinegar. I've been getting it from him by the gallon for about $3. If you have somewhere that sells UNPASTEURIZED apple cider, you might ask them if they have any that has gone to vinegar.

Tomorrow we finally get to start keeping our eggs again after de worming all the chickens!!
Our new 20 day old bottle calf went through a sick spell this last week. We got him all better and he is feeling and looking much better! And he also has figured out (kinda lol) how to moo!!

I talked to Ideal Poultry today... it's confirmed they have sent me 5 roos with my 10 pullets :( There is no way I will be able to keep all 5 for just 10 girls :( So I will have to find new homes for them once I can ID which ones are the roos :( I don't want them to be cooked, so keep in mind I will be looking for good homes for them when they are older. UNLESS There is away to keep them, but keep the girls safe.

Lots of bachelor pads lol. Sorry about your predicament. I quite ordering from hatcheries. It tucked me off when they would send me extra cockerels. As long as I have ordered Enough chicks to keep each other warm-I want ony what I ordered!

When ordering from ideal, they give you the option to take the free " packing peanuts" to make sure your order arrives safe or you can pay a small insurance fee and opt out of the extra cockerels.
