INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

I found a nest of eggs yesterday. One of the eggs was my birchen modern game pullets first egg. She doesn't look like she should be laying, but it was definitely egg. It is funny because to me she is always going to look like a 3 weeks old chick lol

Sorry to butt in ladies and gents, but I was wondering is anyone here has 2 pullets they are looking to get rid of in the Columbus Indiana area. I have lost 2 due to predation in the last week and I am looking to replace them. I was offered chicks but with the onset of winter my father doesn't want to be wintering over babies in the garage. Pm and we can work something out. If not, thank you anyway! :)

I miss my Bacon, but I'm glad Janet gave him a good home, and that her DH loves him so much :D My yard looks naked without him, but at least he has ladies and no dog tackling him. I'm going to miss kissing his bald, wrinkly head though.

My younger brother (sugar daddy of bird funding) refuses to put up any more more money now that the birds aren't cute anymore. He doesn't mind paying for some feed, but he doesn't want to put up the larger fence necessary to keep the birds in our yard, so I've had to find another home for the ones who keep jumping into the neighbor's yard. Janet said that she could take in my birds, and I know that she'll give them a good home, so I've brought the first car-ful of them over yesterday.

Looks like I'm stuck to birds incapable of fence-hopping, which appears to limit me to ducks for the moment.

Does anyone know is a Muscovy can clear a four-foot fence with one wing clipped? My chickens have all been able to so far.

I am soooo excited for you, and yep I missed the post  I keep missing whole pages somehow, makes me crazy. I always open the next page on a new tab, even before I read the current page. When you start to have laying peahens, please let me know. I would love to add them again but hatch my own. I feel its a night and day difference in the bonding with my birds if I hatch and hand raise them myself. All my hatchery or added birds usually take a lot longer to trust.
Its very exciting and congrats on the ovations :thumbsup ROFL I have goals here, and its given me goals for my farm too. I don't individually post each thought tho, it would clog this thread up terribly lol, most of us, and as you do it too, just quote a page at a time.

I like having a lot of onesies and twosies.. I can see if I like that breed. I have a lot of single breed birds from so many places and just love it. Love the color of the egg basket too, makes it really fun sharing my eggs. There are some dedicated folks here raising silkies so they may be in your future ;)

I am still really intrigued by the JGs, you saw my tiny JG hens ROFL  Hatchery birds do not give a good example of the breed.

I really think the younger birds need something worms offer (protein is my first thought) most of my older birds don't get excited on bugs. But my oldest EE Bunny sure trumps every bird here when I have meat scraps for them! So i feel its the breed's needs, age, and the individual bird too. Either way I am always trying to add proteins to their diet, we are raising mice now, and am starting my fish tanks up again for the winter.

I will let you know for sure! My IB may be laying in the coming spring, I believe my IB male is split WE and of course it will be a couple of years before my new whites will be laying. .that is if either are female. I wouldn't mind a pair but really just wanted two more hens. I also wanted to add a Pied but none hatched. So I ppossibly will add that and then I'll be content with my Peas. Now a different story if we move to have more land!! Lol

I have 2 chicks that are being raised by a broody right now. They are straight run. They look like a light splash. They are a sumatra barnyard mix. if female the eggs would be light brown. They are outside at night but they have mom. I think they would need a bit of heat only at night for about 3 more weeks. if interested message me. We are in Bargerersville. We could meet you in Franklin on 31 ~ About 15-20 minutes north of the outlet malls on 31.

Good to hear about the chickens Janet! How did the cochin// wyandotte turn out?

Well Cinder, my little splash cochin is now a little over 2 months I think . I lost track.
