INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Took these pics today. They are just vulchers so i dont think they are a threat to me since my animals are all alive and not dead. Never seen this many in one flock before tho. I couldnt fit all them in the screen.

Happy Birthday to craftychick! Hope you have a warm, sunny day. Sorry about your poor hen! I agree with your husband; I almost couldn't read your post. I would have to be institutionalized if I had to do that! On the other hand, you're a good mom for trying to figure out what went wrong.

4 the Birds~ Those big birds look pretty scary lurking around the chicks' cage! ha

AATH~ Great chick story about the older one keeping the younger one warm.

PinkE~ Congratulations on new chicks!

CluckAcres~ Those vultures looked like the ones I saw at my house a couple of weeks ago. I supposed they were migrating-- to your house! haha

Old Rooster~My daughter is an IU student, so she lives in Bloomington, but my other daughter lives in Indy, so I pass by Martinsville! We're getting so many members on this Thread that we about have the State covered. I've learned about many areas that I knew nothing about-- both geography and chicken-related. : - )

My babies did well thru the night, I got up at 2am to check them, all sleeping and quiet, this morning at 6am they were up and eating and drinking...My husband reached in and petted a RIR he named Roada, it just stood there and let him pet and pet, like it was saying "Love you dad" boy, I'm already attaached to these little chickies. Thanks for all your help, because of this website I was fully prepared to bring these little sweethearts home, I've learned so much here, and I know there is much more to learn too.....

A Red-tail got one of my barred rocks several months back, and coons claimed four of them last year... Hawks are hard to manage, but the coons I trapped, and then put electric fence up all thru the coop, top to bottom, also put a radio in the main barn and left it on 24/7... since then... no losses... just wanted to help if possible.
Thanks for the info. We are not sure how much we will let our hens roam the yard. The run will be pretty big, but it can be muddy sometimes where it is. Lots of hay will help. I will do my best to make sure the coop and run are predator proof. We've been researching hardware cloth, my wife found the best deal at...........wait for it........Lowe's. The have 1/2'' square welded 36'' tall by 25' long for $29. Everywhere else she checked was about 30% higher. We'll need 5-6 rolls. This will about double the cost of the coop now!
