It is not a good idea to post signs to beware of the dog theme. If they would bite someone and they take it to court it can be said that you knew you had a vicious animal and being fenced in may not make a difference,

Welllll, we just got home from Menards! We went for some coop lumber, and stumbled across a pallet FULL of 2x4x8 and DH snatched it! Estimate we got it for about 27 cents a board. They have pallets of new wood on occasion that falls below B grade. Our intention was pressure treated wood for the new coop bases. Still got that pressure treated lumber, but now, WOW am way ahead on what we had planned to buy

Now, we have enough for several coops!
After my mysterious losses this last month, the majority of my birds are going to be cooped, and locked in with padlocks going forward. I have a strong suspicion it is kids

. There is a group of boys on bicycles coming into the yard odd times of the day and evenings. I have ran them off several times, and this last week was not very nice what I said either!

Since I am gone so much with my parents appts Its gotten worse.
Talked to a friend on the PD and he is watching to see "who" they are! I have invited not only the local PD but county PD also to please park and watch the park and speeders on our road. And please, stop the kids from taking my birds too. I am sick to think what was done with my missing birds, they were all the people friendly ones we adored. One hen, Bunny was 3 years old. She would fly right up on DHs shoulder for a cracker. Our dually bed is full of lumber tonight. Its heartbreaking having to confine them and does not feel right to me. But at this point I have to protect them until these kids are stopped.
My geese and ducks are untouched, and so far my turkeys. Those birds do not tolerate aggression from anyone, and will not approach strange people. I think this was DH's final straw realizing his Bunny girl is missing too. She went missing sometime friday, so I am not feeling hopeful.

Well.... congratulations on the lumber purchase. I'm so sorry about your birds though. If Cooper (the aforementioned large Great Dane/Boxer mutt) were decent with birds, I'd loan/give him to you. He's an excellent deterrent for humans and other canines (likes cats, but his drool and constant affections tick them off). You might want to look into a Pyrenees rescue or find another LGD breed. With Cooper, I don't really think it's a prey drive as much as smaller birds seem too much like squeaky toys, and he's bored. Hug your DH for me. As attached to some birds as he is, I'm sure he's very upset

I know my mom and I took the loss of our BO roo very hard too (and we still have phantom Bacon sensation).

@jchny2000 That's insane that someone would steal your poultry right out of your yard. Even if its just kids, they need to be punished. Especially if they are killing them for fun. We don't need anymore twisted youth out there. Really sorry about your favorite hen

That's an interesting point. If it were me, I'd use a Guard Dog - No Trespassing sign instead of an Attack Dog or Warning Vicious Dog sign. Seems like if someone was trespassing on your property, they wouldn't have any rights. I am no expert, though.
Being a curious person, I just did a quick search and found this:

When someone is injured by a dog, the dog’s owner may not be legally responsible if the injured person:

• provoked the injury from the dog
• knowingly took the risk of being injured by the dog
• was trespassing
• was breaking the law, or
• was unreasonably careless, and that carelessness contributed to the injury.

Not all these defenses can be used in all states. Sometimes, the defenses that can be used depend on what the dog owner is being sued for.
INDIANA:
A person who is trespassing has entered private property without permission and may not be able to recover damages if bitten by a dog while on that property, in keeping with Indiana's limits on homeowner liability for trespasser injuries.
Indiana's dog bite statute specifically eliminates trespassing as a defense when a dog bites someone carrying out a legal duty (postal worker, etc.) even if that person did not explicitly ask for permission to enter the property.

"Comparative negligence" aka "Comparative Fault" describes a situation in which an injured person is partly or totally responsible for his or her injuries. One example is when a person provokes a dog, which then bites. Indiana applies a "modified" comparative fault rule that allows an injured person to recover a reduced amount of damages if his or her fault is less than 50 percent, but to recover no damages at all if his or her fault is 50 percent or more.

Dishsoap works well. about a tablespoon per gallon 10 days or so. I typically just squirt the soap into the milk jug of water or into the waterer if I'm outside. But I estimate that it is close to a Tablespoon.

That's roundworm.

Others can chime in.. it's a lot of reading/research as most will say only Wazine is approved for poultry. Treats roundworm only and has a 2 week withdrawal period.

I personally have used the cattle pour on drench, Ivomec Eprinex, which also treats for lice and mites, gapeworm...roundworm...etc. No withdrawal time.

I also use Safeguard for goats but have only used that on my birds that weren't laying. Not intentionally just so happened that way. I've seen mixed results on withdrawal or not. I would probably eat them but that's just me! I would expect it's traveling the gut/intestines and would not affect the egg. JMO

Rooster Booster is also no withdrawal period and I've used it. It states treats roundworm, Cecil worm and capillary worms.

I have Wazine but have never used it due to the withdrawal time. With all the other options to rotate them with as to not build immunity, I have stuck with using these products.

I'm sorry J for the loss of your birds. I wish you would have been able to find them. I'm glad your dh is installing security cams. I'll never go back from having ours. You know I have a special interest in the monsters who did this being caught with the loss of Gus. I miss that big guy. I hope however he was taken from you, that it was quick and he didn't suffer. RIP big guy and all of his friends you lost.
