INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Woohoo! Their eggs get huge FAST! Mine make awesome noises as well. They are talkers! They sure are pretty kids! Your rooster is even prettier than his papa I think! Heiser has a white tailfeather that is less than desirable but easy to breed out.
Just a ? on size. One of the 3 pullets is smaller. Can chickens grow at diff rates & later catch up or will she probably always be smaller than the other 2?

None of the Bieles have white feathers. One pullet has a white tip on one wing feather, but its not obvious. I will probably only keep 2 of the 3 pullets due to coop space. Having a very, very hard time deciding which two.

Then there's the lav orps. I know I need to downsize for winter, but each one is a lap chicken.

Silly ducks! With those nails I can't believe they haven't torn my Brand New Cover!!!

There are two different lines that were imported, one in 2011 and one in 2013. The 2013 import is smaller and I have one 2013 import hen. Your smaller hen probably came from her. She will always be a bit smaller. Just slightly different genetics!

For those of you that recall the Peafowl rescue; I have visited the property and will be going on Sunday to try capturing as many as I am able to gather crates/cages for. I won't go into too much detail but any of you love your animals this was a sad sad site to say the least.

The elderly couple have been gone for months now and before the neighbor had realized it several cats were so bad they had to be put down. This is a hoarders home with every out building filled to the brims! These animals need help..so please any type of kennel/cage/carrier that at least a Beagle sized dog to a Great Dane size will help me.

There are roughly 25 birds. Many adults and younger than a year. So varying sizes are fine. If you have them to loan to me that would be the best help I could ask for!!

I would like to have any available crates picked up by Thursday as that is my deadline for confirming a time with the woman I'm working with. I don't want to waste her time if I don't have the ability to crate many on one day.

Thanks for any help!!

PM me a time and place and what you are able to offer and I will be there.
We will mark/label your cage and I will return in 30 ish *quarantine is 30 days* days. If you have to have it back before then please specify and we will make those arrangements also.

I will be in Indy tomorrow.

Thanks!
Mandy

Well, so far, my little Physco, the scovy hen is making a liar out of me! She is keeping her new brood safely in the coop, and away from the adult birds and the pond. I set her up a small area with food and water, and she isn't even trying to move them. If she continues to stay put this time, I will let her raise them, makes it so much easier to comingle into the adult flock later. Much healthier for the ducklings and Physco too.
@ellymayRans DD has offered to take any peas, male or female that don't get offers of homes. Same for us. We both have the room at our properties that they can be free to range and enjoy just being birds. We both have the available space for quarantining also. I have 2 sheds empty right now, like 8x10 or larger, and they would be able to be out of cages and just confined to buildings. DD has a 2 car garage she is willing to house any needed in as well. Poor things, its time for them to have a better life.

All my spring pullets are laying!! Getting lots of new egg colors, one OE egg is almost as round as a golf ball, LOL! Nice big egg, haven't determined who she is yet. Am looking forward to eggs all winter finally, may slow a little in January, and that's fine. Every year I argue with myself about artificial lighting and decide not to. I guess I want to keep my hens longer so I just don't do it. I do plan on adding new pullets in the spring again, some of my girls will be 5 years or older by then. My hens that are past laying have earned the right to stay. One EE hen hasn't laid in over a year, and she was older when she came here. I have no problem with just letting her live her life out, naturally. Maybe its not frugal..but its humane. I really appreciate my fresh eggs from my girls. I do understand how some folks will process older hens, and need to keep their flocks young. We are not at that point, will cross that bridge eventually am sure.

@jchnny2000 that's all wonderful news! Big hugs to you and DD!

@pbirdhaven has offered a helping hand also to roundup on Sunday with me. Which is awesome because I thought I was going to be flying solo on that front! Lol!

Once I get an accurate count of them and can ideally pair them up in trios, quads etc then I'll post more details on that. I am going to be particular about where they go for sure. The elderly woman is so heartbroken and wants to make sure they aren't "caged". However I understand the necessity of penning them with appropriate space requirements. They've requested if she is able, to come visit some of her birds at some time, of course I agreed. However if anyone that takes in some agrees I will provide their info as they maybe a closer drive for them.

Heartbreaking situation. Love, love, love the wonderful hearts and support of everyone here!! Thanks!!
