INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

For those of you that recall the Peafowl rescue; I have visited the property and will be going on Sunday to try capturing as many as I am able to gather crates/cages for. I won't go into too much detail but any of you love your animals this was a sad sad site to say the least.

The elderly couple have been gone for months now and before the neighbor had realized it several cats were so bad they had to be put down. This is a hoarders home with every out building filled to the brims! These animals need help..so please any type of kennel/cage/carrier that at least a Beagle sized dog to a Great Dane size will help me.

There are roughly 25 birds. Many adults and younger than a year. So varying sizes are fine. If you have them to loan to me that would be the best help I could ask for!!

I would like to have any available crates picked up by Thursday as that is my deadline for confirming a time with the woman I'm working with. I don't want to waste her time if I don't have the ability to crate many on one day.

Thanks for any help!!

PM me a time and place and what you are able to offer and I will be there.
We will mark/label your cage and I will return in 30 ish *quarantine is 30 days* days. If you have to have it back before then please specify and we will make those arrangements also.

I will be in Indy tomorrow.

Thanks!
Mandy
Mandy, You are a saint for taking on this sad, but rewarding project.
Do you have PayPal? I would be happy to make a donation since I am unable to transport any crates there by Thursday.

You're fantastic. I'm alway s sad to hear of that kind of situation, but even sadder for the beings who go through it.

I agree w/ M2H--if you have a PayPal, I'm in too. I have a couple of cat carriers to loan, but we may have trouble hooking up today.

I didn't want to ask but I would be forever grateful. [email protected]

Time for Pipd's big post of admiration! :D Lots of :love ahead!
Here's a photo I took yesterday of Screech who could be beautiful if she stopped challenging my LF chickens who've pecked her head feathers off. Here's Bonbon (Bantam Chocolate English Orpington) She's been having a light molt starting from the top. Her new neck feathers are a darker, richer brown. Bonbon hatched Screech (thanks to @ellymayRans ). I was hoping that Bonbon would go broody this fall, but she and Screech still act like mother and baby so I don't think Bonbon will have the urge.
Screech is such an adorable little puffball, even if she suffers from Hen Pattern Baldness. And Bonbon :love
Babies!! :love
BTW- Has anyone noticed that Bielefelders make all kinds of unique noises? I swear one of the hens is growling at me. At least that's what it sounds like. Then there's another that "honks" at me. I believe the "Honking" is her way of announcing "Treats are comin!" or it's just her way of begging. The roo has only crowed a handful of times. The orp roos seem to take care of most of the crowing & mating. The Biele roo's pretty smart, though.
I just adore Bielefelders! :love Such gorgeous birds! I do remember my Violet having a lot to say, too. She made more 'grumpy sounds' than anything else, grumbles and complaints and such, but it was all for reputation's sake--she was the sweetest hen. :)
:love I love EEs that look like this. Gorgeous hen!
Rocky next to me watching the silly ducks!
400
Rocky's a handsome guy! :love
Once I get an accurate count of them and can ideally pair them up in trios, quads etc then I'll post more details on that. I am going to be particular about where they go for sure. The elderly woman is so heartbroken and wants to make sure they aren't "caged". However I understand the necessity of penning them with appropriate space requirements. They've requested if she is able, to come visit some of her birds at some time, of course I agreed. However if anyone that takes in some agrees I will provide their info as they maybe a closer drive for them. Heartbreaking situation. Love, love, love the wonderful hearts and support of everyone here!! Thanks!!
And one last post of admiration. Big thumbs up for everything you're doing for these birds! :thumbsup

I haven't been able to get on lately due to a number of things, mainly that our internet connection is having fits and not working for hours at a time right now. :barnie Been kind of rocky for me lately. I'll spare y'all the majority of it, but I wanted to know if anyone had any experience with ovarian cancer in chickens? My sassy little Fayoumi, Marama, hasn't been herself lately, and I think I feel a small lump along her left side behind her leg. I'm not sure if this is the appropriate location for an ovarian tumor in chickens. I'd just like to know if my suspicions are probable and if so if anyone has any suggestions about what I can do for her. :( I only ask because I thought someone here had had a hen with this and was hoping for that person's experience on it.

Editing to add, if it helps, her full symptoms are a lowered interest in free-ranging, holding her tail slightly lower than usual, the mentioned lump in her side, and some fluid buildup in her abdomen, which seems to fluctuate in amount from day to day. Her appetite and droppings seem normal, and she does still scratch around and free-range, just not quite as far as she usually does. It's hard to describe, she seems fine, but just slightly off...

From my experience with internal laying and peritonitis, I feel safe ruling this out as a possibility. Just not sure what else to look for, as it seems like so many things have the same symptoms...

Oh, one last thing, a month or two ago she laid a shell-less egg. She has laid normal eggs since then (but with rough shells), but I haven't seen an egg from her in at least a few weeks.

Sorry for the bombardment, just not sure what else to do... I don't want to lose another hen already. :(

How old is Marama?

[rule]Mandy, if you can track down any type of news release/article or documentation of this crisis situation, I could find other animal lovers to donate. I feel like I'd need something concrete to show them (not that they wouldn't believe me), but donors like documentation.

I understand and appreciate!!!

I will ask her.

Thanks everyone!

She's about 2 1/2 years old. She hatched on May 12, 2013.
