INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

BOAH...  And NPIP
http://www.in.gov/boah/2519.htm
If you plan to offer hatching eggs or chicks it definitely is a plus for your flock. This is telling folks your flock is certified clean via the state regs, and you can also ship hatching eggs, chicks and and birds with this certification.
@kittydoc
and @CCCCCCCCHICKENS
are both NPIP testers. Please speak up if I missed anyone else! I want to become certified also its a matter of a 2 day class at PU in southern IN. Those of us keeping large flocks would benefit being certified, less internal operating cost to be NPIP. The antigen is the most costly part of being a tester.

Thank you for posting the links! Im not getting notifications. I change my settings and as soon as I close my browser they change back.stupid cheap phone!

I have chicks! So far a dozen have hatched :). Another dozen due Thursday. And I dont get to keep one lol. All were preordered. But with the incubators empty now...hehehe.

Hope everyone had a Happy New Year!

To help manage the number of breeds I personally have I've been networking with breeders all over the USA. a "customer" has asked about Marans specifically French blue Marans the ones my affiliate has are being crossed over isbars for which ever reason she has... The question at hand is does anyone have pure Marans? That are wiling to have an order placed

I had a very painful loss today, one of my oldest goose hens went missing last night. Snowy was a very dominant goose, probably top hen. I count a few times every day. Every bird.. I know who is here by species. Snowy wasn't in the goose coop, so I spent several hours looking, we have 5 acres. I found her this morning because Gee and Angel won't leave the pond.
She is way out in the middle of our pond, I can't even give her a proper burial yet because our pond is frozen. Heartbroken to lose her, she was one of my original geese and a very good friend. Gee and Angel I was finally able to coop up.. they are still calling for Snowy.
So Sorry for your loss.

4H meeting tonight. Hoping my children behave as they should and not overly excited like little puppies. I'm only taking the two oldest but ....

I am so sorry for your loss of poor Snowy.

I've been on chicken business in Florida for three days and my preggo messages me and says no chickens have died since I've left... Wth life trying to tell me something I guess lol
Thats good news tho, its likely passed.

Im up at this wee hour of a morning due to being awoken by honking outside. I could tell Rocky was honking from a further distance than he normally roosts and sure enough found him way up a tree in the woods.

It wasnt until I started walking about did the other peas start in.
Im guessing the Owl was back. Things have been quiet since the loss of my younger girl. The hen and young boy have most every night since slept in the coop. They are outside tonight. Rocky had abandoned the deck to the playset since and it worried me. There were several feathers on the ground tonight. Can't help but believe it tried to get him tonight.

For those of you new to here, Rocky is my young peacock. He was raised inside for some time and quite a spoiled boy!

He is looking so handsome! I am glad he is safe.

I have purchased from this breeder. He has beautiful birds and super dark eggs. Its hard to find anyone hatching quite yet.

I honestly think she got into a fight with a drake. Snowy was a very grumpy, dominant goose. Not with me but other species. She has been harassing some of the younger muscovy drakes, and I have a strong hunch she'd met her match. I cant believe my ganders would not have stepped in though. Snowy was my top hen, all 3 ganders adored her. I can't get to her body since the pond is frozen, and she is smack in the middle of it. She was pure white, so if she had wounds I should see blood. In all the years I have kept geese, she is my 3rd loss. I just adore them so much its heart breaking. I also know Snowy well enough to know she picked a lot of fights.

Predators...Its really becoming an issue for the winter. Our great horned owl is still quite active. Appears my Daisy the donkey is determined its not welcome in her pasture. I heard her braying and sure enough, she was chasing after it. Fanny my cow seems to agree its not OK, right behind her. I have a cow guardian for my waterfowl, awesome! Am not sleeping well after losing my goose, and checking coops several times a night. Huge wingspan and unmistakable feathered legs. It was beautiful to see it, but I sure hope it leaves.

My guinea fowl killed a hawk yesterday possibly a coopers or sharp shinned. Very small maybe a pound, 2 at most. All of my guineas were piling up on this thing attacking it. Once I saw the activity, and heard all the commotion I knew it was a predator.Saw the head I realized it was a small hawk. Underneath the body I found it had killed a young EE rooster. Poor guy was nearly stripped clean.
I hate winter, it sure brings out the predators. Love my guineas for acting on a predator to stop losses in our flocks. Sad for the little EE roo. He was sweet and unusual in color but would not coop up like a normal bird.

Hopefully that hawk was the little expletive that's been nailing most of your birds this year. Ge Team Guinea!
