@jchny2000 Nope, barred chocolate roo over chocolate hens just gives you unsexable chicks (by color). 50% single barred if that's what your roo is, and 50% solid chocolate, for both sexes.
If your roo is double-barred (which makes them a light khaki color, and I've never seen one in person), you will get, I think, 100% single-barred chocolate cuckoo chicks, also unsexable by color.
I have a single-barred cuckoo roo over chocolate hen, and will get half cuckoo and half solid. They'll be sold as straight run.
You only get color sexable chicks by putting your chocolate or chocolate cuckoo roo over NON-chocolate hens, like black or blue. Isn't that right, @Junibutt ?
You don't get sexable chicks by color by using chocolate hens, only the roos with non-chocolate hens.
Junibutt has got it all figured out, and he has some freaking gorgeous mauves that I wish had!
I am going to use my true black hen Cleo with Hershey, too. THAT WAY I will get sexable chicks. Anything chocolate (cuckoo or solid) will be hens, and anything black/black cuckoo will be roosters split to chocolate. Right now Cleo is in her 2-3 week isolation so I know that any Jubilee semen is gone. I have read that 2 weeks is enough because whatever rooster is "last in," he will fertilize the eggs.
Then I plan to try Hershey with one of my blue hens, as soon as I figure out which of the three is the most regular layer.
We have a setup in the garage for all the breeding activity involving Hershey. Several dog pens, one plenty big enough for a couple to make chickies. It took Hershey all of 10 minutes to breed Cocoa.
